In a lot of ways I feel bad for a lot of trump’s supporters. A lot of them are people going through hard times, especially in the rust belt, and he made them feel like their problems were caused by people with brown skin, and the only way they could “win” or be “great again” was to build a wall. These are people in situations that need assistance with retraining for new jobs and modernization of their regional economies. None of that was getting worked on because they put their faith in a gimmick. It’s all been a waste of time for them. They must be so disappointed because this is real life for them and their situation is not getting better. We’re still losing factories, coal is not economically viable and there is no real investment in places like West Virginia, western PA. It’s sad. My point is while we in the opposition, rightly defeated Trump on this stupid wall fiasco, a lot of people put a lot of their hopes for the future in this and their futures are not bright.
I talked to someone who said DACA and some other Democratic want was left out of this Government funding deal. Although it seems like the rug will get pulled out from under the Democrats should Trump use an executive order like Obama did many times, I would in no way consider this a win for Trump or his supporters. Trump’s inability to reach an agreement with the Democrats over effective border security is a negotiation failure. Initiating an executive order under a questionable national security declaration is a leadership failure because one of the requirements of the office of the Presidency is to protect and uphold our Constitution. Trump’s executive order probably goes to the Supreme Court where it should die, unless partisanship overrules basic jurisprudence. In that case, US Government disfunction would be complete.
1.75B for 55 miles. That comes to $4700/foot. Per foot! Wtf are they making this wall out of? Who's the prime contractor? Its gotta be King Hal.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, the average cost of building a sound wall is $30.78 per square foot. That includes labor btw. Installed. Footer and all. Sooo.... 30 feet highX5280(ft/mile)X55(miles)X$30.78=$270M
Well, that goes without saying.... but a walls a wall to some extent. I mean the whole point is to slow people down. We all agree there is no 100% full-proof design. Hell you could even dig a trench and bury an extra 10 feet. Beats me. $4200/foot seems a little pricey though.
Provide the specs for the border wall from the federal government including the need for reinforcement (so it can't be rammed down), a portion underground, and razor wire -- to a contractor and ask them to price it out. See if it is near $4200 / foot.
Razor wire is under $1/foot.... so even coiled like a beast, $30/foot tops. I looked, those pre-cast highway panels use rebar, I figured they did. I re-did the math, using a 40 foot wall, with 10 feet buried and added the concertina wire @ $30/foot.... $368MM I mean these don't look all that much sturdier really, but I know you're gonna debate me lol soooo....
