I have to admit that I was one of those guys really looking forward to Vista's release. I was enticed by the pretty bells and whistles. So I ordered a couple new laptops with Vista preinstalled so I could play around with it. I kept one and gave one to my mother. The instant I started having outright compatibility issues with various drivers, I quickly formatted my new laptop and threw XP SP2 on it. I think Microsoft finally got it right with XP SP2. My thinking is that they should have released XP to the public about two years ago...which means that Vista should have been held for a 2009 release. My mother is thrilled with Vista (when it's not malfunctioning), so I find myself serving as tech support for an OS I don't particularly like. It has very strange bugs in it that come and go. I can't stand the look and feel of Windows Explorer. I detest the Start menu (and switching to the "Classic" view makes it revert to a version from before XP, which seems odd). (Side note: I can't believe that those numskulls at Dell would send out computers with drivers that are imcompatible with the installed OS.) I'll probably switch the several PCs I have at home and the office to Vista when SP1 comes out. And as more and more of my stuff is on servers (using Windows Server), I want to start playing around with Linux on local PCs, but I digress... polr

When Vista was released, it became the ONLY choice on Dell's most popular line, Dimension, and the HPs. Either there is a significantly larger profit margin in Vista or Microsoft strongarmed the box makers. In either event, the premature release of Vista is primarily about a Microsoft money grab.
30 days with Vista http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTMxOCw5LCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA== "Based on my personal experiences with Vista over a 30 day period, I found it to be a dangerously unstable operating system, which has caused me to lose data."
Vista is nice but it requires more memory to run smoothly. It is very slow if you don't have at least 2GB of memory. And the stores sell it pre-installed with only 512MB and 1GB of memory. With that little memory it runs very sluggish. If you buy a Vista then buy extra memory also. Buy 2GB of memory. Then you will like Vista.
No don't buy it at all, let Microsoft know they cant put out an inferior product and we will all just swallow it like good little children
I recently purchased two Dells with XP Professional. Dell has packaged their product lines in such as way that you have to buy either a low end or high end model to get XP. If you want a middle of the road system, Vista is the only choice from Dell.
Did anyone ever check XP or Vista for hidden bugs ? It would be very easy for Microsoft to hide goodness-knows-what in the millions of lines of code, to be activated upon command. I am not saying that this is the case, but it would be a huge temptation for CIA types to be able to read computers around the world for instance. Or shut down enemy ones. We mostly put up with having to buy new printers etc but what else lurks therein ???????????????
Vista is pretty darn good if you have the computer to run it. Vista is paving the way for the next gen operating system that should basically step it up to the next level if you have listened to a recent Bill Gates interview. The major disappointment for me was not have the DB filesystem that would have made it run incredibly faster.
