Damn. Four minutes! I've reached 3:20, and might have gone on for an additional few seconds, but nowhere near 4 minutes. The thing is, I wonder where it might become problematic, because I read that at some point it starts to negatively affect the brain, heart and kidneys. And so, if i go too far, at some point I might start rooting for Trump and buying Bitcoin. So you can imagine my concern.
Try the pineal gland activation breathing technique. I’ve been incorporating it into my morning meditations
When I was doing it daily I would typically be in a 3 to 3:30 range. Always in the morning, always an empty stomach, always in a recliner. The two times I reached 4 I swear it was like I just didn't feel the need to breathe at all. I just opened my eyes and was kind of startled at the time and thought I might want to take a breath
don’t know what generic you’re referring to. The pineal gland technique tries to push up spinal fluid up to ur pineal gland which is your master gland and is considered your third eye. Activating that gland offers release of melatonin and heightens your parasympathetic nervous system which we all know is the cornucopia of health. In a nutshell. I’ve not been doing it long enough so I’ll keep ya posted.
@CaptainObvious i stopped timing myself with the app and just hold out as much as possible. In certain cases I also get lost in the moment and forget about time, space etc and feel like I can hold out an eternity. Longest I’ve done that’s I’ve actually monitored is like 3:16-3:30 . My friend gets to 5 minutes. 4 min is incredible. I once saw David Blane live hold his breath for 9 min in a tank of water but then again who knows if he had a hidden device.
Those rare times where I get lost in it is what I'm going for, but it is elusive. While there are benefits, both physical and mental, it's the feeling of separation from the physical realm which I seek. Do a search for holding breath records, you'll be amazed.
Hmm. I don't know. It sounds a bit woo-woo. But as you said, you've not been doing it for very long. I'd be interested to know how it compares after a time with what you were doing before, that is, just regular mindfulness or breathing meditation.
But seriously, are you not at all concerned about the possible ill effects of holding your breath for too long? I'm just trying to determine the safety threshold and have not found anything clear or definitive.
I don't think it's possible to come up with a definitive number for time. There are to many variables for individual health. I have never, not once, felt dizzy or light headed while doing this. If I had, or ever do, I would back off and would advise anyone else do the same. I think, don't know, but think at some point it would just be a reflex to breathe if you were approaching a danger zone, but again, that time will vary from person to person.
