Politics and economics have always been inextricably intertwined and were recognized as such by the developers of the discipline we now recognize as "Economics". John Stuart (Mill's) "Principles of Political Economy" was published before 1850 and remained a primary economics text virtually until the Twentieth Century. We find, possibly to the chagrin of some economists, the Economics Departments in our universities lumped in with the social "sciences".
