I assume that's some kind of back adjustment method (possibly buggy) to make the price comparable to the current price. Would assume it never actually traded below zero.

I was surprised to see this chart, because when you buy a stock option , your risk is limited because stock can't trade below zero ... but i googled internet, and i saw several disscution on stocks trading below zero, got me scared, as you can see MRO stock symbol has gone to minues - 10.00 $ Could it be my chart setting?
Yes, it is your chart setting, or something like that, because Marathon has never gone below zero. In fact, it's hovering at it's historical low right now, around $4 per share.
