Burning Man opening year-round office in Reno The San Francisco-based Burning Man organization is opening a year-round, satellite office in Reno to better support operations in the northern Nevada desert that hosts the annual counterculture festival. The Reno Gazette Journal first reported this week Burning Man will begin a three-year lease later this year at the old downtown Post Office built on the banks of the Truckee River in 1933. So, after Burning Man lately being a sellout festival that rightly tries to correct its image (and ways) - what is the next Burning Man that's not been destroyed by Silicon Valley billionaires?
To attract a more diverse crowd, Ms. Goodell said, Burning Man is making changes to its ticket prices, which last year ranged from $190 to $1,200. If they really wanted a truly diverse crowd they wouldn't charge at all. Initially this was to be an escape from unbridled capitalism and corporate America. It was a way to just shed all of what people grind through day after day in our work-a-day lives. It is now nothing more than another tourist trap with all the corporate trimmings. This small and insignificant change they've made this year is a long ways from the roots of the movement. Not impressed.
They should do it in Kansas on the prairie. Why? First, there is nothing in Kansas, so this would give a reason for people to go. Second, it is in the middle of America, so equal opportunity traveling. Third, it is less inhospitable than Black Rock desert. Nebraska would be another good choice:

All those festival attendees would just trample and litter those beautiful meadows. At least there's nothing to trample in the desert. Or almost nothing.
