Covid lockdown panic was caused by Fauci's "1% error"!

Discussion in 'Economics' started by thecoder, Sep 6, 2020.

  1. Yeah, call someone a moron. Always a solid rhetorical fallacy, the ad hominem.
Not a single death within 200 miles of me. Out of 65ish deaths in Nova Scotia, 60 were in a single nursing home.
    Ooh, I better be cautious.
And many of those excess deaths in the US (I don't live there) were from lockdown problems and inability to access the health system.

Nova Scotia doing very well...restrictions are obviously working. Nova Scotia also has an aggressive public health campaign about Covid-19.

I knew Nova Scotia was taking Covid-19 as a serious health crisis when to put restrictions on travel into N.S. back in July @ https://novascotia.ca/news/release/?id=20200702003

    Job well done

Coronavirus digest: Anthony Fauci calls White House event 'superspreader'

US expert Anthony Fauci has described the Rose Garden event as a "superspreader" which led to the White House outbreak. He also sought to temper presidential praise of an experimental drug. DW has the latest on COVID-19.

The US government's top infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci has said the event held at the White House Rose Garden on September 26 was a "superspreader" event that led to multiple people, including President Donald Trump, being infected.

"I think the data speak for themselves. We had a superspreader event in the White House," Fauci told CBS News Radio. "And it was in a situation where people were crowded together and were not wearing masks," he added.

Asked about the president's praise for an experimental COVID-19 treatment he received as "a cure," Fauci said calling it such would be misleading as it still hasn't been proven.

"We don't have any indication – I think you really have to depend on what you mean by a cure because that's the word that leads to a lot of confusion," he said.

    U.S.
President Donald Trump has held his first in-person event since testing positive for the coronavirus. Hundreds of supporters gathered on the White House South Lawn on Sunday to hear him speak from a balcony.

As he sought to reboot his embattled re-election bid, the president said he is "feeling great."

"I want you to know our nation is going to defeat this terrible China virus," Trump told the cheering crowd, most of whom were wearing masks but with very little social distancing.

The public engagement was given the green light by Trump's physician. However, the White House has not said if the president has now tested negative for the virus, raising concerns that Trump is still
    contagious.

Trump will head back to the campaign trail next week, starting with a rally in Florida on Monday.

His Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, has criticized the president's behavior as "reckless."

Canada is at a "tipping point' in the pandemic, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday, adding that the second wave of the coronavirus was "really frustrating."

He urged people to avoid large gatherings over the weekend for Thanksgiving, a major Canadian holiday.

"We are at a tipping point in this pandemic. Not only is the second wave underway, [but] yesterday we hit the highest daily record for cases, well above what we saw this spring," Trudeau told a news conference.

"I know this is discouraging... the increase in new cases is putting enormous pressure on hospitals and health care workers, who are more and more swamped," he said.

Latin America and the Caribbean might see a region-wide 7.9% drop in GDP due to the pandemic.

"Our region is suffering the worst economic and health impacts of COVID-19 of anywhere in the world," said Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, the regional vice president of the World Bank.

Trump's COVID-19 outbreak: Who got infected?

    Adviser Hope Hicks

A former White House staffer, Hope Hicks had returned recently to help Trump prepare for the first presidential debate against Joe Biden. She was the first person in his surroundings to test positive for COVID-19, just hours before the president confirmed his infection.

    Europe
Cologne, in western Germany, passed a key threshold in the number of coronavirus infections on Saturday, recording more than 50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. The city joins Frankfurt and Berlin, and has introduced more measures to combat the disease.

Germany has seen another spike in cases, with 4,721 new cases reported on Saturday morning by health authorities.

France has recorded a daily record of over 20,000 new coronavirus infections, with the country's health minister warning of the deteriorating situation.

Authorities have declared the highest coronavirus warning level for four new cities; Lyon, Lille, Grenoble and Saint-Etienne. The warning is already in place for Paris, Marseilles and the French overseas territory of Guadeloupe.

In Italy, the daily infections hit 5,372, the highest since late March when the country was the epicenter of the pandemic. The latest figure is also close to the all-time daily record of 6,557 infections, reported on March 21. Overall cases in Italy have now reached 343,770, while the total death toll increased by 28 to reach 36,111, authorities said.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will inform the UK parliament of the government's potential new lockdown restrictions next week. A survey showed that the average daily number of coronavirus cases in England has doubled in a week. The UK also has the highest death toll in Europe, with 42,679 people in the country losing their lives to COVID-19.

The World Health Organization has called on European governments to take decisive action to curb the second wave of infection. Europe surpassed 100,000 daily infections for the first time on Thursday.

"There are no new answers. We know what we need to do," WHO's emergencies chief Dr. Michael Ryan said at a news briefing in Geneva. "It is though sad to see many countries in Europe experiencing a rapid rise in cases and governments do have to take decisive action in order to try and shut down transmission."

Poland reported a record 5,300 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, according to the country's Health Ministry. The numbers were released as new rules on wearing masks outside at all times came into effect. Poland has recorded 121,638 cases of coronavirus, and 2,972 deaths.

The Czech Republic has said another lockdown could be on the way as COVID-19 cases spiked for a record fourth day in a row. The country registered 8,618 new cases on Friday, up from 5,394 cases the previous day, bringing the total tally to 109,374 cases with 905 deaths.

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis warned: "Either we will all comply with the safety measures, or we will have to adopt further restrictions fast, and we can't rule out a lockdown."

The number of coronavirus cases in Russia rose by 12,846 on Saturday, a new daily record since the start of the outbreak earlier this year. The overall total number of infections stands at 1,285,084, while the country's coronavirus crisis center has confirmed an additional 197 deaths, bringing the official death toll to 22,454.

    Asia
North Korea has held its military parade marking the 75th anniversary of the country's ruling party, despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The streets of Pyongyang saw the North's latest and most advanced weapons, with South Korea's unification ministry anticipating a "large-scale parade."

North Korea closed its borders eight months ago to protect itself from the virus. It has still not confirmed a single case of infection.

Indonesia has reported 4,294 new coronavirus infections, to bring the total tally of 328,952, according to government data. Officials said 88 more people have died from the virus, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 11,765.

Confirmed coronavirus cases in India have neared 7 million, with another 73,272 infections reported in the past 24 hours. The country's Health Ministry said another 926 people had died from the virus over the past 24 hours, taking total fatalities to 107,416.

Yeah, there funny, notice how they ignore any logic that doesn't go there way, spineless aswell.

All the deaths are care homes or Coke users in the younger generation, and they'll go on about they care about the old people, but it got exposed they where refusing to treat people from care homes and returning covid patients to infect the others at the care home, did anyone of these snowflakey lefties care ?? hell no, there only interest is they don't get it and die.

Excess deaths from people to scared to ring 999 (911) as they might catch Covid and get a mild cough are 20K, but with the fake Covid cases looking at 40K+ really, nice NOT! :(

Just watching something " The Great Reset " 1 country saying, lets not waste this chance Covid ( which a over hyped on purpose nothing ) has provided us to change the world, into a Green and Socialist World, Universal Basic Income, Travel reduced hugely as everyone is equally poor. That's what is at play here, world wide, the nut job I presumed that believes Lizards actually rule the planet is getting everything right, so much so, can't rule out Lizards run the planet at this stage, maybe not nuts just informed.

Biden is an obvious massive Leftie Socialist, so US elections are pretty much guaranteed to be rigged again, USA needs to fall to bring all the other countries down :(

If your a leftie, then I guess, that's why your going along with this and not fighting it at all, Overnight is a Leftie, just go along with it, don't rock the boat, he wants what is on the other side, ignore all the issues being created, cause we are all going to get Univeral Basic Income and be equal :(

Suspected this for a while, why else create this level of panic and fear to control the stupid masses over something that isn't much worse than a bad flu especially as there where claiming treatments that do work don't by being stupid and testing without the ZINC part which was the main part, don't want to cure it, they need to keep the FEAR alive :(

Trump, is trying to fight this, but PC ( the biggest evil on the planet ) is being used and it's impossible to argue against PC because of it's circular bad logic.

    We be fucked!! :(

Steve Buscemi: 'I hope people remember the shutdown in the next elections'

One of my favourite actors said it best...

"I think the shutdown is ridiculous. I think the Republicans in Congress are holding the country hostage. I think it's criminal. I don't see why they're allowed to do it." Buscemi on politics livens up. "The Tea Party faction of the Republican party are holding the Republican party hostage.

They've hijacked it. I don't understand their philosophy. I think that in their own hearts and minds there's a reason why they feel they're doing good. But I certainly don't agree with it. And I hope the shutdown effects change. I hope people remember this in the next cycle of elections."

    ----------

My opinion...he nailed it. If you're going to blame a political party for the lockdowns....

Blame the party that's in control and the health crisis under their watch. If you're not a U.S. citizen and you don't vote in their U.S. elections...

Best to not bring their politics into the discussion and only concentrate on the politics of your own country. Ignore that advice, you open a can of worms to other discussions. :D

Steve play's a part in my new favourite movie Dead Don't Die that contains many movie stars, celebrities that I like. This movie will become a classic. In fact, it contains 10 of my favourite Hollywood people.

So it in NYC went from 1 person to 10K+ per day cases inside of 4weeks, then dropped off and went sideways with low deaths for 4months and for no reason you think it's really just going to come back and repeat April ??

2 deaths yesterday LOL NYC has Herd, UK has Herd, Sweden same chart no lockdown = Herd.

Why the level of utter bullshit ??

Enjoy all being equally poor in a Socialist country, where you all get the same $$$'s but working gets you perks and trading well kiss that goodbye.

I'm talking about country full lockdown as in full state wide lockdown for all states...not targeted lockdown nor talking about targeted restrictions. Yet, I think (could be wrong) that only +40 states did a lockdown. I believe the states that did not issue "stay at home orders" were Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.

Yet, this article gets into what exactly was restricted in the above states while they did not do a full state wide lockdown @ https://ballotpedia.org/States_that..._to_the_coronavirus_(COVID-19)_pandemic,_2020

I have relatives in South Dakota that closed off the entry roads via road blocks to to their community (reservation)...allowing only residences to enter and the Governor threaten lawsuits. :D

Same governor not able to protect them via building a hospital that's been requested since she took office and the same of the governor before her.

My point, there was not a national lockdown although the word "lockdown" has been thrown around as if there had been a "National Lockdown". Similar to people saying Sweden did not lockdown when in fact Sweden did a "lockdown lite".

Yeah, I do know Mr. Buscemi is a Brooklyn boy. He's at his best when he plays those country boy / rurual boy / italian boy movie roles.

Regardless, not sure how they got so many star plus actors / celebrities to do a Zombie movie back in 2019 called The Dead Don't Die. I highly recommend it as a movie to put on your list of movies to watch during a Pandemic in an election year. :D

Seems the 2000cad a month doesn t reach all or it s not enough, my cousin along with his 2 friends who moved there earlier this year to work in restaurants considered the latest lockdown as over the top damage and moved back to France, this cousin to his hometown where professional oportunities were grim even before covid, he still considers to have a better life standard back in France at the moment ( he s a young cook/chef )
One uncle just got covid btw along his GF, he s 57 y o, fit for his age, was tired 5 days, some muscle pain, lost taste for a couple of days. Dealt with it at home quietly taking paracetamol only, no fever nor respiratory problem. His GF had an even milder case, not clear she noticed covid at all. Seems to be close to the norm from the many cases I know around.

Madrid is very weird atm, state of alarm, we re not supposed to leave our hometown without a good reason but there are many of those and little enforcement, so we keep on going to the gyms outside like a lot of people do.
We spent much of the week end at the posh park near our house, a bunch of restaurants around a park outside a mall, limited affluence is only partially respected, a huge bouncy castle for kids which they didn t set up this summer because of covid while the cases were much fewer is back on, kids playground and water fountain open again as well, after being closed for months while the restrictions were fewer. Quite strange, still serious struggle between provincial and national government which might soon end up in general confinement, but municipalities and most people seem to not want any of this. National police has been sent in force over the long week end to try to enfore Madrid periferal lockdown but not clear how many are left.
Read today 29000 pupils in Madrid were in quarantine, all 4th graders in my kids school ( 4 classes of 20roughly) were sent home for over 1 week because of 1 positive case in one of the grade 4 classes. Ridiculous, have 2 friends with kids there and they were both outside this week end in that same area, didn t even try to hide. People are getting fed up wiyh those ridiculous rules for a disease that mostly attacked collective psyche.
