Democrats’ Armageddon Option

Discussion in 'Politics' started by exGOPer, Sep 20, 2020.

  1. Ot sounds like the Democrats have 2020 in the bag. Assuming their base is all they need.
If the Democrats win 2020, Kamala may be a potential bright spot if she is an Independent thinker, at least by Democrat standards. Grin.

If that were true, why say anything? Just sit back and watch it unfold to your advantage.

In truth, Democrats are beside themselves and horrified at the thought of Trump filling Ginsburg’s vacancy with nothing other than empty threats to stop it.

All it takes is to change federal law and put in 2 more justices, its as simple as that, it's not an empty threat at all given the anger on the left. This is not the same party it was 8 years ago, its getting more and more populist and Biden is no Obama to play the cool no drama guy.

They just need to hold the budget and the debt ceiling raising hostage at the House until that Senate seat is take in AZ in november.

That or impeach Trump again, multiple times, the Senate must take those up.

The threat to stack the court is toothless w/o names. Throw names to stack w/Hillary and Obama

11 million more people voted for Democratic Senate candidates in 2016 than Republican Senate candidates. Democrats gained only two seats. 18 million (!) more people voted for Democrats than Republicans in the 2018 midterms, and Democrats actually lost two seats. On the flip side, Republicans only won by a margin of 4 million votes in 2014 and won 9 Senate seats.

The current Senate structure is anti-majoritarian. Saying “the American people” chose this outcome by the current distribution of Senators is false. Mitch McConnell is the beneficiary of a demographic lottery and using it to claim a mandate.

This gets fixed once Am Samoa, Guam, USVI, NMI, DCand PR are given statehood. That's 12 senators.

Seeing as how it’s been at 9 since 1869, something Roosevelt couldn’t accomplish, I doubt the Dem’s will be able to achieve their plans.

Roosevelt was blocked by Congress which made it a federal law which can easily be changed and only limited to norms of the day, current GOP is not following any of the norms established for the court so why wouldn't Democrats change the law?

Oh, shit. The repubs better confirm a new SCOTUS before the election.

    9. “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.” Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist.
