l was long 100 citibank, call got assigned on ex div date April30 at 0135, before market open at 0930 on ex div date, should dividends be received? thanks
No, because then exercising the option wouldn’t make sense for the other party. The only reason you’ve got it assigned is because someone else wants the dividend. Also, exercise/assignment doesn’t happen in the morning. The cutoff time is the previous evening. Only your broker notified you and/or processed your assignment in the morning. I mean, nothing would change if your broker did this before midnight or after midnight.
