Merchan is doing Trump a favor with that sentencing date occurring before the RNC convention because had the sentencing date occurred after the convention...they would again scream "political witchhunt". It would have been bizarre to see Trump nominated by the RNC as a convicted felon and then the Secret Service escorts Trump to prison after the convention.
