Yasmin Aguilar resettled in Boise, Idaho as a refugee from Afghanistan years ago, but the dangers for her relatives worsened over time. Late last year, after years of waiting, her brother and sister were finally on the cusp of joining her. Then President Donald Trump took office for his second term. Trump in January suspended the decades-old refugee program. It left their approvals in limbo and their families stuck in Pakistan, unable to work and increasingly fearing deportation to Afghanistan. This week, her family’s struggles contrasted sharply with the fast-tracked arrival of 59 Afrikaners, members of a White ethnic minority in South Africa that Trump says suffers from racial discrimination. At least nine are now resettling in Idaho.
Afrikaners have a long history of hating and abusing blacks. Naturally they will fit in with Trump's vision of America.
Afrikaners built a first world society. African blacks have a median IQ of about 60. Apartheid was the common sense solution.
You really should go read The Covenant buy James Michener. Despite this book being historical fiction, the novel provides a very good sense about the history of the Afrikaners in South Africa including their religious zealotry, intolerance, and being stuck in the 15th century. Hardly a "first world society" -- in fact in many ways it resembles Muslim societies which are stuck back in the 10th century in their attitude towards women, abuse of non-believers, violent tendencies, and lack of education beyond the good book (written in Dutch).
The only reason that South Africa advanced to become a "first world society" is due to the English bringing business, law, regulations, and education to the continent. The Afrikaners had nothing to do with this -- instead defending their traditional intolerant view of the world and rural living beliefs in the Boer war. The Afrikaners volunteering to come to the U.S. under Trump's plan are the current version of the intolerant, uneducated, backward Dutch Boers. Being resettled in the white-supremacist state of Idaho will align with their world view. However the white supremacists will shortly find out that Afrikaners are even more right-wing extreme and race-hating then the most intolerant white-supremacists in the state. Just wait until the Idaho residents find out that Afrikaners hate people who speak English. This cult-like group from South Africa are not people who will assimilate well into American society -- in fact they generally reject contact with anyone who is not part of their religious community.
More exaggeration based on your narrow worldview. The Dutch settlers brought an advanced culture to Southern Africa just as they did in New Amsterdam and the Hudson Valley, particularly in comparison to the indigenous tribes. The English took over, and the Boer war was a struggle against British colonialism. By the way, South Africa was largely empty when the Boers arrived. The Bantu speaking tribes arrived later from the north. All whites are in danger in South Africa at this time, and Trump's offer applies equally to those of English extraction.
A huge majority of whites living in South Africa state there is no "white genocide" and Trump's claims are false. Nearly none -- including those of Afrikaner descent want to leave. South Africans dispute claims of genocide against white farmers in their country https://www.nbcnews.com/world/afric...ugee-claims-white-farmers-genocide-rcna206327 The Afrikaners that will leave South Africa as "refugees" are those who are still stuck on the old intolerant fundamentalist religious and racist views who have not evolved into the 21st century. Additionally -- you really should learn your history. The Dutch who founded New Amsterdam were from mercantile class and focused on development of trade. The Dutch group who went to went to South Africa was an intolerant religious sect.
