Clary / AFP In his first address to United Nations, US President Donald Trump has threatened North Korea with total destruction if it attacks the US or its allies. He also blasted Iran, Venezuela, Cuba and Syria. If forced to defend itself and its allies, the US “will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea,” Trump said in his remarks at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. He also called North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un a “Rocket Man” on a suicide mission. Trump thanked China and Russia for joining the US at the UN Security Council to impose new sanctions on the DPRK. In the past two month, the UNSC passed two rounds of sanctions against North Korea for its repeated testing of ballistic missiles. Last week, Moscow told Washington that while Russia and China are implementing the sanctions part of the UNSC resolution, the US must deliver on its obligation to pursue diplomacy to defuse the crisis. Meanwhile, North Korea warned Monday that the more sanctions imposed on it, the more quickly it will complete its nuclear force, official state news agency KCNA reports. Iran Trump declared the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran an “embarrassment to the US,” adding, “frankly, I don’t think you’ve heard the last of it.” His administration has threatened to quit the deal if the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) did not require and obtain access to all Iranian military sites. The UN’s nuclear watchdog last week certified that Iran complied with the agreement, which was negotiated by world powers - including the US - two years ago, in order to make sure Iran does not build nuclear weapons. Venezuela & socialism Trump also railed against Venezuela and its leadership, saying the US will help the Venezuelan people “regain their country and restore their democracy.” Read more Dropping the dollar: Venezuela lists oil price in Chinese yuan “We call for the full restoration of democracy and political freedoms in Venezuela,” Trump said, adding that the US has imposed sanctions against the government of President Nicolas Maduro and is prepared to do more. He then went on to blast socialism in places like Venezuela and Cuba, saying that their problems stem from the fact that “socialism has been faithfully implemented.” Earlier in the speech, however, Trump spoke about the importance of sovereignty as a guiding principle in international relations. “We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone,” Trump said. “We are guided by outcomes, not ideology.” The American president stated he will always put America first, just like other leaders in the room “will always and should always put your countries first,” he said, drawing brief applause from the audience.
Are you just making shit up now? https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/25/joh...rean-missile-tests-violate-un-resolution.html North Korean missile test violated UN resolution, Bolton says Published Fri, May 24 2019 Earlier this month, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the first flight of a previously untested weapon — a relatively small, fast missile experts believe will be easier to hide, launch, and maneuver in flight. U.S. President Donald Trump’s national security advisor, John Bolton, said Saturday there was “no doubt” that violated United Nations resolutions. U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton said on Saturday North Korea’s recent missile launches violated a U.N. Security Council resolution and urged leader Kim Jong Un to return to denuclearization talks. It was the first time a senior U.S. official has described the tests as a violation of U.N. resolutions aimed at halting North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs and came ahead of a four-day visit to Japan by U.S. President Donald Trump who arrives later in the day. “The U.N. resolution prohibits the launch of any ballistic missiles,” Bolton said at a press roundtable. North Korea’s test firings included short range ballistic missiles and so there was “no doubt” it was a violation, he added. It's the latest in a series of breaches by Iran following President Trump's decision to abandon an international nuclear deal and impose economic sanctions. https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/04/middleeast/iran-centrifuges-uranium-intl/index.html Iran announces new centrifuges on 40th anniversary of US embassy siege By Bianca Britton and Sara Mazloumsaki, CNN (CNN)Iran has launched a new generation of advanced centrifuges to enrich uranium, the nation's nuclear chief announced Monday, the latest in a series of violations of the nuclear deal signed between Tehran and world powers in 2015. The announcement came as Iran marked the 40th anniversary of the US embassy siege, when Iranian students stormed the US embassy in Tehran and took 90 people hostage, including 66 Americans. "Today we are launching the 30-series chain of IR6 centrifuge machines," Iran's nuclear chief Ali Akbar Salehi of the Atomic Energy Organization told state television IRIB. Iran is now using advanced centrifuge models to enrich uranium "The number of centrifuges we have installed during these two months is about 15 new generation centrifuges, which is a huge achievement." The advanced centrifuge machines allows Iran to speed up its uranium enrichment. Under the terms of the nuclear deal, Tehran cannot use IR-6 centrifuges, among other models, to produce enriched uranium for at least ten years. The deal allowed Iran to enrich uranium with just over 5,000 of its first-generation IR-1 centrifuge machines and the nation was allowed to use advance centrifuges for research purposes only. https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/20/middleeast/iran-drone-claim-hnk-intl/index.html Iran shoots down US drone aircraft, raising tensions further in Strait of Hormuz Tehran, Iran (CNN)Iran shot down a United States military drone on Thursday, further escalating the already volatile situation playing out between Washington and Tehran in the Middle East.
And how do you suggest he should have done that? Start a war on the Korean Peninsula that would see 1000's of U.S. military personnel die along with perhaps a million innocent civilians? No... Trump used gun-boat diplomacy and arranged the Singapore Summit. I agree the matter is far from over, but there has been no loss of life there in 3 years, Trump deserves credit for that. Its hard to play "what if Hillary had won", but there can be no doubt the situation would be much uglier.
