Some of this is back to the future. The food stamp program originally started as a surplus food program in the Depression. It was designed to find a way for farmers to sell surplus food at a discount to poor people which would otherwise go to waste. At least half of the program was like that. The program had two sets of stamps. You could buy one set of stamps for cash and buy regular food in grocery stores. You might buy, like ten dollars worth, but the stamps got you fifteen at the store and so on. The other color stamp was cheaper but you had to buy surplus farm food. Not twinkies, milk duds, and jujy fruits and lobster. As with today's WIC Program, sorta. Of course, I was just spoofin' ya about buying lobster. You can't do that. Note, for those who are not familiar, that is a true Maine/North Atlantic lobster he has there. Not to be confused with the southern, warm-water, spiny, no real claws lobster. Yup. Only the best for him.
Sorry to break this to you but lobbyists pry your money from your hands everyday. Why should anybody be taught home economics? Just limit what can be purchased with SNAP based on nutrition.
Most people on food stamps are NOT homeless. In fact well over 99% of people on food stamps are not homeless (note figure from memory). The food stamp program has difficulty attracting the homeless to it because they have no place to store food, etc. The government makes active efforts to attract more homeless to use the program. https://www.usich.gov/resources/uploads/asset_library/myths-homeless.pdf
Well over 99%.. Lol..no place to store food? They don’t get that much and they don’t have to buy all at once..How do you know all this if your an IT Consultant?
