Worst opening post of any thread ever in the history of the world goes to (the envelope please) David Smith. (Pabst?)

(Just my very humble opinion. I fully expect to hear the same about myself shortly).

Well now that you mention it...

Actually RS7, given the guff you've taken from some of these jaggoffs, after starting some great, soul bearing threads, I'm surprised you're not using a verbal uzi.

I would have to agree. I can't say that I blame him.

I don't have the attention span to read the whole post, let alone write it!

  6. Since DavidKSmith is probably too busy "gathering socially" to read this, I will say this for my fellow peons:

First of all, the word "then" means thereafter, following next after in order of position, narration, or enumeration, in that case, as a consequence etc. It does not mean "than", which is a word used to indicate the second member or the member taken as the point of departure in a comparison expressive of inequality.

Trust me, I had to learn English as a foreign language, I ought to know.

Secondly (since this seems to be the only attack in DavidKSmith's litany aimed at what I have said on ET), I really am a mathematician. I graduated and wrote my master's thesis on algebraic topology. I am not saying mathematicians are good or rich or highly reproductive or whatever seems to be important in your "reality", I am just stating a fact regarding my university education.

I agree with DavidKSmith that today's action on ET was not particularly soothing, and I feel for everyone who currently does not have the mental strength to withstand all the crass and pointed opinions expressed here.

And last but not least, I don't trade because I want to get rich quick, and I might be the exception here, but the reason why I trade and frequent ET is I want to find out more about the nature of price moves in a market. In a way, the thing I am most interested in is if MSFT will go up .10 before it goes down .10 or not, and why. I know that I don't know the answer, and it is pretty obvious that nobody knows it, but it is what I am interested in. I could not care less about complicated and capital intensive arbitrage strategies. They mean no more to me than strategies for running a used car business. I am sure we agree they all are trivial. If you make your money doing arbitrage, good for you, if you enjoy social gatherings, even better for you (especially in this country). But if you can show me a journal of some speculation or a link to a statistics website or explain to me why there are QQQ options but no SPY options, then you can be one of the reasons why I read posts on ET.

And yes, I am not ashamed to admit I don't know why there are no SPY options or why there is no 1000 strike for SPX options, but I challange every trader (even someone as unimaginative as a pure arbitrageur) to give me one argument why such knowledge would be essential or even beneficial for any form of trading.

  8. Lawdy lawdy! You just got to love when some rube comes along and writes an ego-driven rant like that proving that he's a bigger schmuck than the schmucks he's insulting (not that I think folks here are schmucks... mostly).

"Late night social event" LOL!!! Have to remember that one! Admit it, Dave-o, you're sitting at home like the rest of us. Be a man, join the club. At least I can admit that my wife is already asleep in the next room and I was yet again blown off for sex. :) Lighten up. If I were running a successful hedge fund, I'd have little desire to hang out here, much less post a bucket of vitriol.
