possibly, but we both understand that considering the wide natural temperature variation one way to tell whether the temperature is falling or climbing is to fit it to a straight line over long periods and see if the line is up, down, or horizontal. When we cherry pick the period of the most recent 18 years, the line is horizontal. At least we can stop worrying about Hansen's hypothesis. The satellite data shows us unequivocally that the feed back induced by slight warming is negative rather than the positive feedback Hansen had predicted. Whew!, I'm so relieved. Aren't you? If I didn't know better I'd think that because the temperature hasn't gone up, despite CO2 continuing to rise, that there must be something wrong with greenhouse gas theory. Fortunately I do know better, and I recognize there are perfectly good reasons why we may not be able to detect a temperature rise. After all 20 ppm more increase is tiny, our measurements have big error bounds, and there are many factors that affect temperature other than the changes in the minor greenhouse gas concentrations. The fact that we can't see an increase in no way negates greenhouse gas theory.
I think a lot of you right wing republicans are confusing "Global Warming" with "Climate Change." Hot summers are caused by "Global Warming." Cold winters are caused by "Climate Change." See the difference? Both problems can easily be solved with nothing more than a carbon tax. I know if I had a job and they taxed me on my carbon foot print, I would think twice before driving to work. I could probably make more sitting at home in my pajamas selling my carbon allowance to a polluter.
LOL, how very libertarian of you to want to sit at home on your ass while the government redistributes someone else money to you.
What I've learned in my 18 years of watching the GW news is that I simply cannot stand alarmist personalities. Even when they are made to confront the fact that their computer models are absolute shit, they use words like "fear", "worse than we thought", etc.. I know people that cannot filter out the hypnotic shit from the facts. They find compelling sources of misinformation and it's over for them. They get onto issues like cellphone nerve damage, global warming, etc. and you simply cannot get them to stfu... You can't do anything around them sometimes, they are a huge hindrance...
Figure 2: Land, atmosphere, and ice heating (red), 0-700 meter OHC increase (light blue), 700-2,000 meter OHC increase (dark blue). From Nuccitelli et al. (2012). A look at the Earth's total heat content clearly shows global warming has continued past 1998. The planet is still accumulating heat. So why do surface temperature records show 1998 as the hottest year on record? We see in Figure 1 that the heat capacity of the land and atmosphere is small compared to the ocean. Hence, relatively small exchanges of heatbetween the atmosphere and ocean can cause significant changes in surface temperature. In 1998, an abnormally strong El Nino caused heat transfer from the Pacific Ocean to the atmosphere. Consequently, we experienced above average surface temperatures. Conversely, the last few years have seen moderate La Nina conditions which had a cooling effect on global temperatures. And the last few months have swung back to warmer El Nino conditions. This has coincided with the warmest June-August sea surface temperatures on record. This internal variation where heat is shuffled around our climate is the reason why surface temperature is such a noisy signal.
