How do you explain US exceptionalism over the last 75 years?

Not really. America and many western democratic countries have provided an environment where scientists are respected and cherished for their talent and knowledge not whether they support the regime or not or idolize the country's leader or not. You can curse at Biden and call him an asshole all you want all day long but if you've got the talent and skill, you will be respected and cherished in America. It's that simple. Would you be able to do that in countries like China or North Korea? No. That's the difference and that's not something that they need to market because it's the truth. One day if China allows people to curse at its supreme leader and not allow CCP directives to dictate scientists' ideas and research, trust me all of the talents will flock to China.

It's not. All they need to do is ask themselves where they feel is more like home to them. If they feel they can call their adopted country their home, then they will naturally want to stay in their adopted country. If they feel their native country is more like home to them, then they would want to go back to their native country. No country is perfect but what matters is which country is more perfect for the person.

Have you ever lived in another country? You just spew one stereotype after another...

One doesn't have to live in that particular country to know what goes on in that country. LOL What I speak of is not a stereotype but the truth to which you choose to be blind. You have a strange attachment to China and yet you claim you are from Singapore? LOL

Wtf are you talking about?!? I didn't bring China up once, you're obsessed with it though.
I'm not from Singapore, moved here in 2019. I lived in China, Hong Kong, Australia and half a dozen other countries around the world. And yes, I can say you don't have a clue of what you're talking about.

Which stereotype are you referring to then? I only mentioned China in my comments. But whatever... LOL

Doesn't mean you know what you are talking about just because you traveled around. You have a very strong bias against western countries. Anyway...

I don't think I have a very strong (negative?) bias towards western countries, I just don't have one against the rest of the world, precisely because I spent 40 years living in various countries, not just travel.

Sounds like a cartoon... You like these words "respected and cherished". How do you know? Trump was elected on a white nationalist platform. How do you think these foreign scientists felt about America then? There's a mass killing every day in America, many committed by white men upset with foreigners. How can you say foreigners are respected and cherished?

That simple, hey? Why take a strawman using China or North Korea? Or are you so anti Chinese that in your eyes the world is divided between whites and Asians (sounds like Trump now).

Scientists do what scientists are asked to do. If you work in a government lab, you do what government tells you to do, or you start a business, in China, Europe or America. All the same.

    Been to MIT laterly?

More than 60% of post-doc students are "international", which most likely means Asian students. Why? Because there are good schools in Europe, not many flew to US for doctoral degrees.

That was in year 2000. As I am sure you were aware, there was a regime change with the installation of a new president which totally changed everything is China which included its attitudes and management of foreigners. China has never been the same ever since. Otherwise why did you leave? Your action completely betrays what you say and promote which makes you one big hypocrite.

    https://facts.mit.edu/enrollment-statistics/

In 2022–2023, MIT students come from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, four territories, and 135 foreign countries. Women accounted for 48% of undergraduates (2,244) and 39% of graduate students (2,830). Fifty-seven percent of undergraduates (2,640) and 22% of graduate students (1,610) self-identified as members of one or more US minority groups.

And on the last table, 53% of international students are Asians.

Lol, at least I went to an ivy. Lot of things you posted just an imagination. My wife currently have a collaboration with MIT Media Lab and got students bodies composition.

Regardless of the nationalities or races, these are very smart kids, whether they stay stateside or go back is up to themselves to decide.
