IL state income taxes to go up 75%?!?!?!?!?!

  1. I was disappointed we, not me, elected Hickenlooper Gov. of Colorado. I voted Libertarian, Tancredo. Hickenlooper wanted to take every homeless person off the street, modeled, after Philly, at the tune of $100k per person! As a former social worker, that is outrageous. Hell you can get by here on 30k if you had to, but as we all know you can't just dispense money and services, it will be abused. So you have to hire people to administer programs and that costs $$$.

I just go back from Kalifornia, none of my friends or relatives are happy with the status quo, but when asked why they voted Jer Bear, they ripped Whitman a new one. I said ok, but she has run one of the word's most successful business what did Jer Bear do before?

They did just the opposite. Quinn and Co. got pay raises as high as 20%

Basically the same reason but I could work from anywhere in the world but having to move out of state? Shit, I hated moving 20 minutes away the last time I bought a house. I'm dying here. This tax is just temporary after all, right? Right? I remember something about the tollroads being temporary in Illinois back in the 70's. Sure glad they got rid of those :p

Didn't it just go from 3% to 5%? Lot of states already pay 4%+ so looks like IL tax rate needed to be higher anyway, especially since they're spending like drunken sailors....but then so are the other 49 states.

I say about time states started nailing the middle class with tax increases. Maybe now the middle class will start fighting back and demand budget cuts rather than more social spending since it will actually come with a cost to the middle class rather than trying to force the rich to pay for the additional spending.

  6. You are forgetting the big picture. As Mav pointed out, sales tax is north of 11% and prop taxes are 3%.

In Denver, prop taxes are 1%, and income/corp is flat 5%, and sales tax is approx 8.25% depending on city.

  7. Taxes in general are a shell game... guess the cup with the ball.
They are broke, sitting around coming up with new baffling and ingenious mechanisms to bleed their citizens while living high on the hog with fat cat pensions.

Income tax is up to 5%.
    Chicago Sales tax is 10.25
Chicago cigarette tax $4.66 / pack
    Property Tax downtown condo $12k
    Gasoline tax $0.25 / gallon
Bottled Water tax $0.05 / bottle

Bare in mind most of these taxes are paid from post tax dollars.. meaning they are short 25% to 40% depending on your tax bracket.

  8. huh

    huh

11% sales tax...fuck me thats bad....but I guess my point is that all the states have gotten into this spending mess because they promised all these additional benefits to the middle class for almost free and so of course the politicians promising free shit keep getting voted in. Until the middle class start feeling the pain they are not going to stop voting in these financially retarded candidates.

If you have a 1000 people in a town and a candidate promises to build a brand new state of the art library and its not going to cost a dime to 900 of those people or cost a tiny amount because the other 100 people will pay for it....how do you think the 900 people getting it for free are gonna vote?

Taxes suck but until we reach a point where the cost of that library starts to hit enough of those 900 people I'm afraid its just gonna be higher taxes and higher spending.
