Mahatma Gandhi did basically the same thing except on a much larger scale. While India celebrates his birthday as a national holiday, the rest of the world just admires the man for his life of service and accomplishments.

Mandela Day will be a fitting holiday in South Africa.

  5. that's great, but what does it have to do with us in the US.. nothing right? So why would we have a holiday for him here?

  6. Because (1) Odumbo is a partial black, (2) America is all about "everything blacks do is good in America".. (apparently includes the "knockout game" and "black intimidation of white voters at the poll".)

    :(

  7. i just find it "funny" that there are people saying we should have a holiday for him here, and that there are also people here in the US, who think VJ day is too offensive to celebrate. To anyone who agrees with this contradiction: get fucked. no, i won't be celebrating holiday's for foreigners. i mean what's next hugo chavez memorial statues in DC? :D

  8. Not funny. If Odumbo has his way, coming to your town soon.

  9. because he's an inspiration for peace, reconciliation, forgiveness, and democracy (and most importantly, free market capitalism.)

and the holiday wouldn't be for him here, or him there, it would be to celebrate our common values, even if you are "them."
