The US Military calls him a hero.Multiple US Presidents call him a hero.

Anyone with a brain in thier heads know if you beat an imprisoned person multiple times a day they will eventually say what you want them to say although Im sure the draft dodging coward supporters thank he would have did different.

Hillary Clinton and John Podesta took monies from the Russians yet, no investigation? If the Russian collusion was really a true investigation!

The military honored him before the songbird tape surfaced in 2016.
    That tape rewrites his history.

Ok... so living in whatever country you find that convincing.

I find his words on the tape convincing as to his hero status. Hero's don't give aid and comfort to the enemy. The don't create propaganda recordings for them.
    Especially an admirals son.

Why would you care what George Bush does? How many times have you called Bush a fool or worse in your life?

I consider this entire "hero" thing to be propaganda. An admirals son, who wanted to fly a plane, got shot down. There is zero hero in this scenario, unless all pilots in Nam were heros. Hero's are known for choices they make. Getting shot down is not a choice. It would only be a choice if he was flying in extra dangerous zones to aid another downed pilot, or something like that.

Now, whether a prisoner of war can become a hero, it's possible, i suppose. What extra-ordinary thing can any prisoner of war actually do to become a hero?

If its about admitting only name, rank and serial number, then there were probably a lot of hero's in Hilton Hanoi.

McCain was shot down, probably by Soviet technology, probably due to other prisoners talking about American flight patterns, such that the Soviet technology was well placed.

If McCain himself talked about American flight habits, then no, he would not be a hero.

IF McCain recieved special treatment, then no, he would not be a hero.

The "songbird" tape, imo, is not traitorous in terms of content. He probably should have been sorry for bombing Vietnam the way American was bombing it. Maybe they did treat him kindly. But it does indicate that he may have been treated specially, compared to other prisoners. In either scenario, whether treated kindly or specially, he would not technically be a hero.

So why is he being called a hero?

Is it because he had a chance to leave the Hanoi Hilton early, but decided to stay longer, and be released with everyone else?

This does not necessarily make him a hero, especially if he was being treated kindly, or specially.

Since the songbird tape indicates he was treated kindly, or specially, i simply do not see how he could be distinguished as a hero, and i think Trump was right to point this out a long time ago.

Let some Veteran with skin in the game make the call on what's heroic.
Captain Bonespurs, of all people, has no right to decide what is, and what isn't heroic.

Well it seems plenty of vets don't agree with the hero status.

And all i'm pointing out is logic.

What extra-ordinary thing did he do, within those circumstances, that would have made him a hero?

    Do you know?
