The main difference between a hate crime and a normal crime is the intent of the offender. A hate crime is committed because the offender has animus towards the victim's group membership. A normal crime on the other hand, is committed for other reasons such as financial gain, revenge, or anger. Hate crimes are considered more serious than normal crimes because they have a broader impact on society. Viral in a way. Hate crimes can create fear and intimidation in communities. They can also lead to violence and other forms of discrimination and the US is all too famous for this. There is a psychological term for when a victim of a crime starts to see all crimes as hate crimes. It is called victimisation. Victimisation is a psychological state that occurs when a person is exposed to a traumatic event, such as a crime and as a result develops negative beliefs and attitudes about the world around them. Often about themselves too believing they are now powerless in an unfriendly world. Quite a few conservatives on this board exhibit classic victimisation symptoms however they often wallow in an unseemly manner so sympathy for this evaporates. A white/asian victim of the robbery by a black gang may develop negative beliefs about black people that last longer than is 'normal'. Believing that all black people are criminals or just a moment away from becoming one is the usual. This type of thinking is known as prejudice. Prejudice is a negative attitude towards a group of people based on their race, religion, ethnicity, or other group membership. There are a number of things that can be done to help victims of victimisation overcome the negative effects of the trauma they have experienced. One of the most important things is to seek professional help from a therapist or counselor. Healing takes time. Talk to somebody objective and apply common sense. Remember that time passes and things change, usually for the better. You need to disconnect the emotional from the memory. Even though I am very big guy and I have never been dominated and humiliated physically except for my brothers, I have struggled with victimisation at times and prejudice. When I was a wildlife ranger I found I was unable to do enough to counter Chinese mine managers in a couple of African countries from devestating endangered species for the Chinese medicine business. A Russian criminal (more than one actually) in the same trade tried to kill me and I'm prone to take a kill-em-all approach to Russians when irritated. I despise narcissists as I found a few were fixated on my daughter when she was a very tall tweenager though that's a prejudice that's actually excusable because they are dangerous to every form of innocence. That's all said, people who wallow in victimisation are prone to making things worse and often hurt innocents themselves.
Yep. And bad faith actors known how to make people experiencing victimisation their foot soldiers. Hey that last post was bordering coherent, I am really enjoying microdosing mushrooms lately haha. Its basically the same talk I used to give as a ranger, "your anger is justified but if you choose vigilante vs a legal resolution, we have to go after you too to stop it spreading.. Life ain't fair." But in truth, this Russia war is bad for me, much stuff I had put away with Russian nihilistic/sadist bullshit resurfaced. I'm constantly having to check myself to make sure that I'm doing things to protect innocence in a morally correct manner, not just because it makes me feel good to kill them.
