  2. So now you can wear a mask without the fear of being ridiculed by your ilk .

So what exactly, there is no depth to confuse yourself with him.

He has given you the green light though. As long as its an especially big mask.

You do understand that this was not the first time he has worn a mask right?

According to the below information from the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, a cloth mask is essentially worthless and offers hardly any protection at all. As the article states, mask may give people a false sense of security. So, if you have been advocated to wear a cloth mask, you have been completely and totally incorrect.

    Mask Facts

Note: A COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) particle is 0.125 micrometers (μm); influenza virus size is 0.08 – 0.12 μm; a human hair is about 150 μm.

    Droplets
    • Virus is transmitted through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. Larger respiratory droplets (>5 μm) remain in the air for only a short time and travel only short distances, generally <1 meter. They fall to the ground quickly. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanres/article/PIIS2213-2600(20)30245-9/fulltext
      • This idea guides the CDC’s advice to maintain at least a 6-foot distance.
    • Virus-laden small (<5 μm) aerosolized droplets can remain in the air for at least 3 hours and travel long distances

N95 – A properly fitted N95 will block 95% of tiny air particles down to 0.3 μm from reaching the wearer’s face. https://www.honeywell.com/en-us/newsroom/news/2020/03/n95-masks-explained.

Surgical masks are designed to protect patients from a surgeon’s respiratory droplets, aren’t effective at blocking particles smaller than 100 μm.

Conclusion: Wearing masks will not reduce SARS-CoV-2.

    • N95 masks protect health care workers, but are not recommended for source control transmission.
    • Surgical masks are better than cloth but not very efficient at preventing emissions from infected patients.
    • Cloth masks will be ineffective at preventing SARS-CoV-2 transmission, whether worn as source control or as personal protective equipment (PPE).
“Masks may confuse that message and give people a false sense of security. If masks had been the solution in Asia, shouldn’t they have stopped the pandemic before it spread elsewhere?”

    • Penetration of cloth masks by particles was 97% and medical masks 44%, 3M Vflex 9105 N95 (0.1%), 3M 9320 N95 (<0.01%).
    • Moisture retention, reuse of cloth masks and poor filtration may result in increased risk of infection.
    • The virus may survive on the surface of the face- masks
    • Self-contamination through repeated use and improper doffing is possible. A contaminated cloth mask may transfer pathogen from the mask to the bare hands of the wearer.
    • Cloth masks should not be recommended for health care workers, particularly in high-risk situations, and guidelines need to be updated.

  6. Masks were not worn in any large scale until well after things had spread already and gotten worse. The statement above by doctors seems h ard to believe a doctor or scientist would have said that.

By the time masks were starting to be recommended in large parts, many people from China had travelled to Iran, Asia and Europe already. Given the current state of cases in Asia I can say masks helped to contain the spread and keep it from continuing to balloon out of control. In the beginning stages you can carry the virus for 2- 3 weeks with no symptoms and spread it and never see a need to wear a mask.

If you want to rely on anecdotal evidence as facts, Asia adopted masks throughout the area in large numbers in February and March and look at their cases as of today and look where we are...

  7. Also the last part of the quote refers to cloth masks being ineffective IF USED IMPROPERLY.... really? that is science?

The article is form the Association of American Physicians ans Surgeons. I did a cursory review, but, it looks as though all of the stats reference studies.

If the studies are accurate wrt the below numbers, cloth masks are mostly ineffective. Liberally paraphrasing the article, if you are wearing a cloth mask and you think that the mask is protecting you from Covid-19, you are a screaming dumbass. Furthermore, if you are wearing a cloth mask and think that it actually offers protection from Covid-19, you probably have a higher chance of contracting Covid-19 because your dumbass will take risk you otherwise wouldn't due to a completely and totally false sense of security. Keep in mind, I am just paraphrasing the article. This is not my opinion.

    Penetration of cloth masks by particles was 97% and medical masks 44%, 3M Vflex 9105 N95 (0.1%), 3M 9320 N95 (<0.01%).

  9. The only thing I agree with is the flase sense of security as illustrated by the article pointing out that people wearing masks improperly are not protecting. That is self evident and a major risk. the article mentions risks of reusing the cloth masks, touching them and touching your face, or not disposing of them properly...these are all factually instances of people IMPROPERLY using masks. There are lots of sources of medical staff tlaking about constantly washing their hands after taking off each piece of PPE and disposing of it correctly or for cloth masks, treating them the same way and cleaning them.

We cannot put down the effectiveness of masks due to the idiots who fail to use them properly and touch their mask and then touch their face, their phone or fail to wash their hands or interact with other people with them not covering their nose etc..
