Local inspectors aren't underfunded. Overbribed, maybe. Doesn't matter at the end of the day if, IF the inspection crew did their job, as it appears they did in notifying the building owner of the structural integrity problems. At that point it all falls on the building owner and unless it's owned in part or wholly by government it ain't infrastructure. Infrastructure is entirely taxpayer funded, which is part of the problem. Business moving into areas need to foot a big part of the upgrades. This happens on rare occasions, but typically they're given tax breaks in lue of jobs created. All the new or improved infrastructure falls on the taxpayer. Bottom line, this particular incident is entirely on the owner of the building, who if found negligent should be buried alive for an appropriate punishment.
You all don't know what the fuck happened and are just listening to talking heads on TV trying to fill airtime... And these are condos... so should the people sue themselves???
I do know two owners of a Condo building in Florida that actually live in two condo units within the building they own. In contrast, I know a Condo building owner in Chicago whom does not live in the building but instead his ex-wife and teenage kids live in the penthouse condo unit of the building. Simply, I don't know every Condo building ownership in Florida but some Condo dwellers do in fact live in the building that they own. Yet, it doesn't seem to be common according to them. wrbtrader
Here's the engineering report. Pretty interesting read. https://www.townofsurfsidefl.gov/do...ral-field-survey-report.pdf?sfvrsn=882a1194_2
First let's point out that the collapse of this condo building in Florida has nothing to do with climate change or public infrastructure spending. This building is strictly a private venture and it collapsed due to poor design and structural faults that were never fixed. There is a slew of interesting news regarding the building that has come out over the past few days which sheds light on who is responsible. The key future question is will anyone be held accountable. Especially since a local government official told residents that their building was perfectly safe despite knowing that an engineering report stated the building had major structural issues. Resident Robert Lisman of the Champlain East Tower (the tower that did not collapse) stated there were concerns about equal major structural damage in both the East and South Towers. The East Tower residents or owners paid for the repairs of the East tower but the South Tower that collapsed...structural repairs had not been done but he's not sure if it had been paid for. Sorry...I didn't make a screenshot of his live interview on CNN but he did make other comments to local news... https://www.local10.com/news/local/...e-terrible-tragedy-to-change-recertification/ Another resident of the East tower stated she heard a loud noise and looked out her window to see a "sinkhole" swallow the pool and suddenly a South tower came down. wrbtrader
I just quickly skimmed through it...thanks. Page 7 is what caught my eye when it stated... "The failed waterproofing is causing major structural damage to the concrete structural slab below these areas. Failure to replace the waterproofing in the near future will cause the extent of the concrete deterioration to expand exponentially." I suspect the families of those that died are now getting lawyers because there will be major lawsuits coming down the road considering the East Tower had the same issues...paid and did the repairs while the South Tower did not...the South Tower is the one that collapsed while the East Tower did not. wrbtrader
They own their units and the condo association represents the owners and owns the building and hires a management company... there is no owner to sue.... dont always act like you know everything... If the condo owners sue the condo associacion they are suing themselves.
In condominium townhouses, the purchaser owns only the interior, while the building itself is owned by a condominium corporation. The corporation is jointly owned by all the owners and charges them fees for general maintenance and major repairs.
