Not enough "teeth"? If someone commits a gun related offense, they go to jail and their guns are removed from them. They are not allowed to own guns again. What extra "teeth" are you looking to put in place? Flogging? Now if these laws aren't enforced, why have them? Why make more? From the article posted: "Phillips has two weapon charges in Tennessee. An unlawful possession in 2009, and a felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2013 that was resolved as a misdemeanor. Police say Phillips has a current concealed carry permit in Tennessee. "I can't believe someone who has past weapon charges against them is even still allowed to carry," said Pierce." This is the only information available in the thread regarding the incident. Based on this, he should not have had weapons in his possession. Thus, it looks as if the laws were not enforced. If you wish to bring more evidence and information to the table, I'll be happy to reassess my view. Until then, you're just yammering incessantly.
I see that there is some disconnect from the reality of the situation and what you think. His charges in Tennessee were busted down to (non domestic violence) misdemeanors, hence why he is LEGALLY allowed a conceal carry. I don’t know if you want to change your opinion now, or if you actually disagree with the law but like I said you’re lacking critical thinking skills.
Wouldn't the problem be with the prosecutors who let him slide on the earlier charges, when he seemed clearly to be a nutcase with a CCW? TT's point is very valid. You can't enforce the laws you have on the books but you want more. Progs want to criminalize possession of firearms by law-abiding people but have endless compassion for violent criminals, particularly if they are illegal aliens.
But immigrants, legal and illegal commit fewer crimes than citizens if you don't count the illegal crossings and overstaying visa stuff. The crimes that worry dumb racist righties like murder etc? They commit fewer. But you can continue to stay igorant and deluded by right wing propaganda if you wish. It's a free country.
There is no end to which you guys will make excuses. Again, gun laws have very little teeth is why this man ended up being able to carry and possess. He obviously is irresponsible at the least and a public safety threat at the most. Either way we need better laws that don’t allow people like him to walk around sticking guns in people’s faces.
https://cis.org/Camarota/NonCitizens-Committed-Disproportionate-Share-Federal-Crimes-201116 Not true. Illegals commit crimes at a higher rate, but are many times only charged with immigration violations so they can be sent back and not be a strain on US resources. Example. An illegal commits assault and battery on someone. Instead of getting 5 years in prison and costing the taxpayer $350k, they charge them with an immigration violation, they spend a few months in prison, then get deported.
You have reading comprehension issues, I see. My statement, which you'll need to re-read, apparently: From the article posted: "Phillips has two weapon charges in Tennessee. So again, if you wish to bring more evidence in, I'm willing to read and listen to it, potentially changing my viewpoint. Please understand that a source is needed, not just you pontificating as usual.
Hard to say. UsualName hasn't provided any evidence of this. No source, or article. Just his claim. Would love to see the details.
First, back up this statement you made: I haven't been able to find anything on this. As originally presented, the man had previous weapons offenses he was found to have committed. As stated, this means it is illegal for him to carry or possess a firearm (assuming these offenses came with prison, of course , as most weapons charges do). Now, if that is untrue and he actually wasn't found to commit previous weapons related offenses, then my opinion changes. But again, all I have is the above information and your other claim. And let's face it, you're not all that reliable around here so I can't just take your word for it.
