Damn, I didn't want to continue highjacking this thread but you leave me no choice. I think you project a lot of right wing media spin without taking the time to think things through. I'm also a white male, first English boat to land on the Eastern shores from one side of my family and 3rd generation naturalized American from the other side. The United States is a melting pot country, not a white country. Whites brought in blacks, Asians came to work, Indians and Hispanics lived on most of the western lands. Whites brought with them the same animosities they had for each other in their home lands. English, French, Germans, Irish, Italians....they never wanted to live together. Everyone took advantage of those who could be, all the way down to the most vulnerables. Your recriminations are the same that 1st generations had towards 3rd and do on. While studying international relations in college, I created a raucous without intention when in class a couple of black girls started ranting about racist white people. I spoke up to make the obvious clear, that racism is a human affliction that knows no skin color boundaries. They didn't like that. In my many years living around the globe, I experienced racism from all people towards all people. How can it be? Because prejudice and racism are the easiest and most obvious forms of rejection. Singapore where I now live, has 4 official languages, English, Mandarin, Tamil and Malay. They had to settle on these because there are dozens of spoken dialects. In addition, the 3 main religions (Islam, Buddhism and Christianity) are practiced about equally with several other religions and a quarter of the population are not religious. That diversity of 5.7 million people live on 284 square miles (about 25% the size of Rhode Island). How does a country like Singapore manage this diversity? Simple... Anyone making overt threats in public or online against any ethnicity or religion is punishable by heavy fines and prison. The government goes to great lengths to ensure proportional representation and it works. Does this mean Singapore has reached social harmony? To some degree, yes it has, more so than most places in the world. In reality, discrimination exists and your typical cab drivers aren't afraid to give their opinions about one group or another. Ironically it isn't necessarily against people of different ethnic backgrounds but against cultural behaviors that are deemed offensive, like those of newly settled mainland Chinese. In the US people are appalled by behavior controls they call mind subjugation. Live Free or Die! The hippie extremism of the 60s and 70s is replaced today by the right wing extremism movements and MAGA. The "woke minds" are anyone who refuse fascism and the MAGA fantasy to live by 19th century behaviors, when conservative religion enforced strict moral codes and women had their best place in the home, breeding and raising children and whites dominated the social hierarchy because...well, they were white. No one lives outside the influence of one's culture, which includes ethnicity, social class, religion, economics or politics. There's no freedom from anything except the influence of others and how we see ourselves fit in our bubble. Survivalists are overrated.
I'm happy to have this discussion because you are clearly arguing in good faith... who cares about derailing this thread! I don't disagree with any of your observations, but now do this same analysis for the UK or Ireland? I don't live there, but I certainly follow along. Same can be said for other Euro countries. There is something vastly different about this wave of immigration, or more so, forced integration, and what helped build other countries in decades and centuries past. I have seen too many reports of immigrants committing crime with no punishment, whereas the locals get arrested for just making a post (UK). Perhaps if the woke police or woke justice system actually did the right thing, which you say Singapore is doing, much of the problems could be lessened, but its not that way now. I would also say that Singapore is perhaps only letting the best people in, whereas Europe has to take in people who are fleeing shit hole countries and have no real skills. Everyone wants to appear righteous and offer help, but who is actually going to open up their house to allow random strangers to stay and eat for as long as they want? This is essentially what forced immigration is. Every dollar spent on this is one less dollar for the tax payer. Since nobody wants to open their house, using your country is essentially the same thing since its a drain on resources. I have also seen far too many videos of Muslims complaining about how things are done in a country that they have contributed nothing to and wanting to bring in enough people so that they can change things around to suit themselves. How do you also react to reports on politicians right in the USA claiming that their first allegiance is to the country they came from? https://www.foxnews.com/politics/so...-shocking-comment-about-america-overseas-trip I read a very good piece about how in Canada for example, it doesn't mean anything to be Canadian anymore. There are so many people from so many countries that Canada has no more identity. Its just the land of free healthcare, which is crumbling, and now of course, a housing bubble set to implode. I firmly believe that when you escape some country for a change at a better life, your primary thought should be towards the country that took you in. When there are more foreign flags in a country like Canada than the Canadian flag, its game over. A society requires cohesion to function and if the cultures are too different, there isn't enough cohesion there. You don't say for example that you're Iranian... you say I'm a Canadian who was born in Iran. The difference is huge but completely lost today.
I would also like to add that things perhaps work in Singapore right now because its a very rich country. If finances get tight, you will watch it all unravel.
It's a highly complex discussion to have because it can't be framed without jumping onto other examples or unique situations to make a point. Simply, the United States is NOT a white country regardless of what the right wing media wants to convince you of and the real shame is that many Americans are being bullied and threatened simply because they're not white. No American should find that acceptable, yet today some of Trump's most recognizable MAGA friends can't make a distinction between immigrant and American. America is a land of immigrants who come from a great variety of backgrounds. That the first who colonized the land were English or French doesn't make them more worthy than the Scots, Irish, Germans, Italians, black slaves, indians, Hispanics, Asians and all others who came to America for opportunities. And today's immigrants are no different! And just like then when the inland majority mistreated the new arrivals from other lands, the Trump right wing is pointing to Central Americans as the source of all our ills, regardless if they are in the US legally or not. Can you imagine as an American hispanic being stopped, handcuffed and thrown in prison until some lawyer proves 2 weeks later that you're American with no run ins with the law?!? And the worst is hearing the fascists contemptuously saying that there will be mistakes but the cause is right! When the lawsuits start rolling you'll see how much Trump saved America.
Agree. And even now, we are clearly talking about 2 different examples. You're more focused on US and Singapore, and I'm describing situations in Canada and Europe that are quite different. I absolutely agree that this is horrible. But lets not forget how we got here. Open border policy under Biden. Then you have judges who refuse prosecute crime. But also never mind the immigrants, even cases such as in California where its predominately one race, legal Americans, that does all the shoplifting, needs to be stopped at once. But once again, judges don't do anything, and the law allows them to steal under $1000. Then when stores pull out of an area, they complain and claim racism. Make it make sense! Before we even talk about race, we should eliminate the crime, like you say Singapore is on top of, and then we can have a discussion about whether different races can get along peacefully. I personally fully think they can, but they need to have shared cultures and values. This is a big if. Here is a perfect example. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...lims-public-facilities-religious-celebrations Is it right? I'm not sure, but I'm also not saying its wrong. The town is losing their identity. When you lose that, its all over. I once again don't see any white people going to the middle east telling them how to run the show. All I see is people from the middle east telling mostly ethnically white areas that they need to change.
I'm sure your news doesn't cover these types of crimes so let me enlighten you. https://flip.it/8Fo6NS
I agree that these are good examples to show the failures of what ICE is doing right now. And the previous link is also horrible. But here is the thing. I have no trouble admitting when white people get it wrong, but I've seen far too many videos where other races assume that racism only works when its by white people against another race. They literally claim that only white people can be racist... LOL The trouble is that the left doesn't want an even playing field and equal rights. For the longest time, immigration worked well. People had to wait, get on a list, prove their capability, etc. Criminals would also be charged for crime, even petty theft. There was no such thing as these mobs today who clean out entire stores while police look the other way. Do you really think it makes sense to essentially decriminalize theft under $950 in California? I'm sorry but the people who can't see that something is going on to destabilize certain cultures are not looking in the right place. Since you bring up examples, I can as well. I'm sure we've all seen the violet mob of Black teens that attacked this White couple in Cincinnati. At first, it wasn't even reported on. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/video-cincinnati-brawl-rcna221321 Let's also not forget how anytime the crime is against a White person, it doesn't get reported on, but when its against a Black person, there is a riot. Also, and most damming of all, the stats of White on Black crime is a fraction of Black on Black crime. But none of this fits the narrative so it isn't mainstream. If you grew up in a culture where crime and assault are normalized, whether you grow up in the US in some ghetto or some other country, your culture is now something that isn't compatible with how most people want to live. It doesn't matter if you're Black or Muslim. To me, race and skin color has nothing to do with it. But your culture and your upbringing has everything to do with it. It will be very difficult for you to assimilate. Its no different than a bad kid who doesn't want to participate in school and just causes trouble in class. Should the rest of the children in that classroom have to suffer his or her disdain for the learning process? No, you remove the kid from the classroom so the rest of the students can get on with learning. But the way things are done now, everyone is forced to accept his bad behaviour and the entire lessons are derailed so that we provide a "safe space" for this bad kid. Airports, because of the all the screening processes, are extremely in-efficient, and are designed for the bottom quintile of terrorists who might have a bomb or knife. In my old university, I've heard accounts of how difficult it is to learn these days because too much time is spent on English misunderstandings. There is so much multiculturalism and English I guess isn't strong for many students so the lecture is always sidetracked. Lastly, I read a very good quote about how in society today, its designed for the bottom quintile. This is a perfect example. You have to stop the entire class just to explain the English. My sister said the same thing before she moved to a different city and school disctrict. Teachers spent too much time on the immigrant kids to help them with their English and the rest of the English speaking kids got nothing out of it. It doesn't matter though because the West has already lost. All of the policies of the past few decades have got us here, and its suffocating the culture and any real progress. The smart people see this and are leaving.
