The gallons of oil spilled by tankers is much higher than the amount spilled by pipelines (see complete figures in PIPELINES ARE SAFEST FOR TRANSPORTATION OF OIL AND GAS). The accidents involving oil trains are much more deadly (e.g. see the Lac-Mégantic rail disaster)

The cost to ship by rail is significantly higher than the oil shipped via pipeline.

  2. That's my perception. We rarely hear about "pipeline leaks/spills", but tanker spills from train derailments or truck tanker crashes are much more common.

Soooo.... just like everything else Odumbo does... he once again chooses the alternative that is most harmful/least beneficial to America.

    :(

  3. What are the jobs data (number of people employed ) with the pipeline vs shipment by rail and tankers ?

  4. Yeah, pipelines are great............for the corporations. Makes it cheaper to destroy the earth. The denial of Keystone makes it more expensive thus it is more likely that these very dirty oil sands are left in the ground. As they should/must be.

    ***************************
Below are the major recent North American oil pipeline leaks:

September 29: The Tesoro Logistics LP pipeline spill was the biggest leak in North Dakota since 1 million barrels of salt water brine, a byproduct of oil production, leaked from a well site in 2006.

March 29: Exxon Mobil's Mayflower pipeline ruptured in a suburban neighborhood in Arkansas, forcing residents from homes. It spilled some 5,000 to 7,000 barrels of heavy crude from Canada.

June 2012: Enbridge Inc shut its 345,000 barrels per day Athabasca pipeline after 1,400 barrels of oil spilled in Northeast Alberta. The line was quickly restarted after the company bypassed a pump station.

July, 2011: Exxon Mobil's Silvertip pipeline leaked 1,500 barrels of crude into the Yellowstone River after heavy flooding in the region.

July 25, 2010: Enbridge Inc's 41-year-old 6B pipeline ruptured in Michigan, leaking 19,500 barrels of crude, of which about 8,500 spilled into the Kalamazoo River. The accident on the pipeline owned by the Calgary-based company was the largest onland oil spill in U.S. history and environmentalists complained it left lasting damage to the river. Regulators kept the line shut for more than eight weeks. The accident was one of three outages that summer for Enbridge, raising questions about the safety of pumping Canadian crude through the United States.

  5. But the above is dated. For all the recent ones. From 21015 alone...

    2015[edit]
    • On January 14, during work to free a trapped inline inspection unit, a leak was discovered on the Evangeline Pipeline, near Cameron Parish, Louisiana. This pipeline had been given a Corrective Action Order in October 2014, due to a number of leaks.[490][491][492]
    • Also on January 14, a gas pipeline exploded and burned, near the Ross Barnett Reservoir in Brandon, Mississippi, creating a sizable crater in the ground and burning 6 acres of vegetation, before the fire was extinguished. No injuries were reported. The failure was due to a "hard spot" from manufacturing, that already had a repair sleeve on it. There are 788 sleeves on the Index 129 pipeline from Edna, Texas, to Sterlington, Louisiana; and, 726 sleeves on the Index 130 pipeline from Marchand Junction, Louisiana to Kosciusko, Mississippi. Both were built from pipe made in 1952.[493][494][495]
    • On January 19, oil from a broken pipeline seeped into the Yellowstone River, and contaminated the water supply 10 miles south of Glendive, Montana. The release was from Bridger Pipeline LLC's 12-inch Poplar line, which can carry 42,000 barrels a day of crude from the Bakken formation and runs from Canada south to Baker, Montana. Bridger Pipeline is a subsidiary of True Cos., a privately held Wyoming-based company. The company said in a statement that the pipeline was shut down within an hour of the leak.[496][497]
    • On January 21, a crude oil pipeline pump station caught fire northwest of Texas City, Texas. Texas City fire officials said that company officials reported that there had been issues with the pump station over the weekend.[498]
    • On January 26, a 20-inch ATEX pipeline carrying ethane exploded and burned in Brooke County, West Virginia. Despite snow in the area, five acres of woodlands burned, and 24,000 gallons of ethane were consumed. Initial reports suspect a girth weld failure, with the pipeline being less than two years old. There were no injuries.[499]
    • On February 17, a suspected electrical arc made a hole in a Marathon Petroleum pipeline in Shively, Kentucky, spill about 6,700 gallons of jet fuel. More than 2,500 tons of soil were removed to clean up the area.[500][501]
    • On February 25, a 26-inch crude oil pipeline in Navarro County near the Town of Dawson, Texas, failed, spill about 50 barrels of crude oil. Near the failure, investigation showed that the pipe had lost about 80% of its thickness, due to external corrosion. This anomaly was not seen in a 2011 test of this pipeline.[502]
    • A pipeline Patrol pilot identified an oil sheen on a pond near Tehuacana Creek, Texas which was then linked to a leaking 10 inch petroleum products pipeline on March 13. About 50 barrels of diesel fuel were spilled.[503]
    • On April 9, 2 Williams Companies pipelines broke within hours of each other in Marshall County, West Virginia. A 4-inch condensate pipeline broke at 8 pm local time, spilling about 132 barrels of condensate into a creek. Around 10:50 pm local time, a 12-inch gas pipeline ruptured. There was no fire or injuries. Heavy rains were said to be the cause of the failures.[504][505]
    • On April 13, a Kinder Morgan gas pipeline exploded and burned near Borger, Texas. One home was evacuated, but, there were no injuries or serious damage.[506]
    • On April 17, a 12-inch natural gas pipeline near Fresno, California operated by Pacific Gas and Electric Corp was ruptured by a backhoe. The resulting explosion killed 1 person and injured 12 others.[507]
    • On May 19, a Plains All American Pipeline oil pipeline ruptured near Refugio State Beach, spilling about 105,000 gallons of crude oil. It is referred to as the Refugio Oil Spill [508][509]
    • On May 31, a 24-inch natural gas back-up pipeline that runs under the Arkansas River in Little Rock, Arkansas ruptured releasing 3.9 million cubic feet of natural gas. The pipeline was not currently in use. No one was injured. A tugboat was damaged.[510][511]
    • On June 10, a 24-inch natural gas pipeline ruptured in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. About 130 individuals were evacuated from their homes. No injuries or damage reported.[512]
    • On June 13, a 42-inch gas gathering pipeline exploded and burned near Cuero, Texas. 7 homes were evacuated for a time, but there were no injuries.[513]
    • On June 22, a truck driver was killed when his rig veered off a highway, & broke above ground facilities for a propylene pipeline in Houston, Texas. The highway had to be closed for several hours, until the gas dissipated.[514]
    • Four workers were hurt on June 25, when a 4-inch gas pipeline exploded at a gas pipeline facility, near White Deer, Texas. 2 of the workers were critically injured. The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.[515]
    • On July 10, a fitting on a 20-inch Plains All American Pipeline crude oil pipeline broke, spilling 4200 gallons of crude oil near Grantfork, Illinois. Much of the crude reached a nearby creek. There were no injuries.[516]
    • On July 15, two workers were hurt by an explosion, when a bulldozer hit a 4-inch gas pipeline, at an EQT gas compressor station in Worthington, Pennsylvania.[517]
    • On August 3, two individuals were injured in Falfurrias, Texas when a natural gas pipeline operated by Kinder Morgan ruptured. Later investigation showed that the pipe split along an ERW seam.[518][519]
    • On August 7, a natural gas liquids pipeline in Weld County, Colorado burned, after being struck by a third party.[520]
    • On August 13, a natural gas pipeline in Cypress, Texas ruptured and leaked while a contract crew worked in the area. The pipeline was owned by Gulfsouth Pipeline. There were no injuries or immediate damage; residents were evacuated.[521]
    • On August 26, two maintenance divers were injured while working on a pipeline owned by Boardwalk/Gulf South Pipeline Co. 25 miles offshore of Louisiana when the pipeline ruptured, and the gas ignited.[522]
    • A Colonial Pipeline 32 inch main line was discovered to be leaking on September 21, in Centreville, Virginia. At least 7,000 gallons of gasoline were spilled, forcing several nearby businesses to close.[523][524]

fraudcurrents prefers nuclear. Yeah we can trust our leaders to get that right.
I'd take a pipeline of oil over these risk and fears... I am not vouching for the info... i just found it with the first query.

    Starfish Die Off?
A massive Starfish die off is currently happening along the entire West Coast. The Sea Stars are experiencing something by the name of Wasting Star Syndrome which is not a new thing, however it has never been seen on this massive widespread level and scientist are not ruling out a major ecosystem change in the Pacific Ocean due to Fukishima fallout.

Bald Eagle Die Off in Utah?
Some are pointing towards radiation, some towards another bacteria by the name avian cholera that Eared Grebes have contracted and brought to Utah. But it seems the final analysis it TheWestern Nile Virus. Even though this is not to blame from the radiation in Japan it is frightening because nothing like this has ever been seen in Utah.

Thousands of Swallows Starve To Death in Oregon?
Recently thousands of Swallows in Oregon began to die off without explanation and in large numbers. It has been said they starved to death due to harsh weather and not being able to go out hunting insects during the storm.

Polar Bears, Walruses and Seals With Hair Loss and Sores?
It has become yet another mystery where masses of animals are experiencing similar symptoms of unknown diseases. They have patches of hair loss and open sores and are dieing.
I’m not sure if this has been solved and even if it is not related to the Japan radiation the point is look at all these major losses of life so far? Radiation or not we need to do something ASAP or face mass extinction when the ocean ecosystem dies.

TONS of Sardines Washing Ashore Dead!
Sardines are some what of a blood line for the Pacific Oceans ecosystem and a major role in the food chain. In Japan over 200 tons washed up on shore, dead, bleeding and even turning the sea red. If these fish are dying from radiation poisoning that could make sense as to why the other marine mammals are coming up sick, hairless, starving and dead. This is pretty concerning.

Mass Ocean Die Off Dismissed As Sea Snot?
Fish and other mammals everywhere are not all that is dieing. The entire ocean seems to be dropping off. About 24 years ago we began measuring “sea snot” which is basically the dead life at the bottom of the ocean on the ocean floor. Decay and rot of dead sea life that feeds new deep sea life. Previously it has been at about 1% covering of the sea floor but now the sea floor is 98% covered in sea snot aka dead life forms! This is bad because a lot of the earths oxygen comes from sea life, plankton and such and it is all dieing.

    Current Conditions?
TEPCO has been under a lot of fire for withholding information and not being very open about what’s going on. Recently there has been a lot of concern about new radioactive plumes coming out of the Tepco power plant nuclear reactor #3. TEPCO claims these radioactive plumes are just left over rain water evaporating. But for massive clouds, it seems like a little more than rain water? Most would accept this as truth if Tepco had been more transparent before but now it seems like they are trying to cover their own butts.
Another theory is the molten ball of whatever is burning through the earths core and hitting ground water causing massive poisonous evaporation clouds. I don’t know how this all works but I guess if there is a 5,0000 degree ball of nuclear materials melting on the ground it only makes sense that it would keep burning through the earth until it hit the core? Or get’s too hot and explodes underground inside the earth?

When Will The Contaminated Sea Water Get Here?
With 300 plus tons of contaminated ground water spilling into the ocean each day, people want to know when will that get here to California? Some say it could take up to 5 years and some say 3 years. Interesting, it hasn’t even hit yet according to these reports.
They are saying that because cesium-137 is denser than water most of it will fall to the bottom of the ocean and settle. This sounds good but it is still ruining the ecosystem and wreaking havoc as you can see.
I’m sure you’ve all seen the beach video showing the geiger counter and high levels of radiation on the California beaches. But they fail to tell you it is always like that. They call it naturally occurring but it goes far back to the days of blowing up countless nuclear bombs in the Pacific Ocean and the long standing effects on our ocean.

    Extreme Danger?
Well it doesn’t take a rocket scientist, nuclear physicist or internet conspiracy theorist to figure out we are one natural disaster away form mass extinction. There is an abundance of spent fuel rods in each nuclear reactor and they are all sitting, waiting for the next earthquake or tsunami to cause a meltdown so catastrophic we won’t have to worry about any of this anymore.

    Japan Nuclear Crisis
    [IMG]

The distance from Japan to California is something like 5,100 miles. Exactly? I’m really not sure but the point is it’s a LONG way.
The distance from Japan to California allows for a lot of dissipation along the way and because the radioactive fallout cloud material is denser than air it falls to the ground or gets brought down by radioactive rain along the way over the Pacific Ocean. But it is still showing up on the West Coast and in California.
On it’s 5,0000 mile journey it must fight major sea currents and even hang out in the Pacific Garbage Patch for a little bit, further diluting it. And more and more will likely fall to the sea floor. but say it is escaping, over the next 3 decades it will work it’s way all the way to the Indian ocean.

West Coast And California Radiation Maps
Here are a few live radiation maps you can check for a current radiation levels in California based on real time Geiger Counter stations in the US.
    Radiation Level California
    Radiation USA Map
    Pick A State

So in conclusion, I think we may be doomed and it could be slow and painful for many.
If you think about it this is not the first time the West Coast has been bombarded with radiation. The US Government dropped a few nuclear bombs on Japan back in 1945 during World War II. Also our very own Gov dropped many many bombs in the Pacific Ocean and Nevada Deserts back in those days.
Now a days we have a cancer epidemic. Could this be the result?
