To ensure that there is no misunderstanding considering you mention my name earlier in your message post... I never requested brass_trader to be kicked out of ET, nor temporarily banned nor permanently banned mainly because I too am aware of how easy is for these individuals to return as another new alias. Yet, I will repeat something I've posted in this thread and many other threads in the past... New members should not be allowed to post in the Community Lounge until they've established a 100 or 200 post history. You guys can possibly gain some quality posts from them before they decide it's time for them to enter the Community Lounge that's the home of the Political thread. I'm a strong believer that problematic members will eventually put the rope around their own necks after they pop up on your radar. Yet, it quickly becomes more problematic when such occurs in the trading threads outside of the Community Lounge...that's when I think problematic members that violate your TOU policy should be kicked out, temporarily banned, or permanently banned even though we all know they will just return via a new alias / new IP address. wrbtrader
elitetrader is a trading website first. Politics is a just pressure valve (at least according to a post made by Baron). This site has no obligation to allow racist posts. Some other (non-trading) forums I belong to don’t have Politics sections or if they do, they are only for members of a certain level. A newbie can’t see them. a pro-trump/pro-MAGA site I was perusing last year had a zero tolerance policy for racist and mysogonistic posts. Why a trading site allows it is odd to me even if the moderators are good at preventing it from infecting the trading treads.
Yeah, I see other forums that do not have a Political section and less tolerance for the bullshit...they have much fewer problematic members, and it's less of an issue with their sponsors. In contrast, I believe ET had a problem with off-topic discussions in the trading threads a long time ago prior to the creation of the Political section. After the creation of the Political section, most (not all) of those off-topic discussions moved into the Community Lounge (home of the Political / Chit Chat section). The problem is that some of those problematic members try getting revenge on a losing debate from the political threads via bringing some of that conversation back into the trading threads to either hijack trading threads or for the purpose of trolling members in the trading threads because of a discussion in the Political section. This should be obvious to ET management when such occurs especially after its been reported and complained about to them to look at the post history of those involved. That's the odd part, this forum has a policy against trolling and I believe that policy is only for the trading threads...this is the rub with most members and some sponsors. That's the issue because it's been less moderated that results in those problematic members gaining more confidence to disrupt the forum that there will be no consequences. ET can at least try it (experiment) to see what happens if they keep the Community Lounge off-limits to new members for a while and I strongly believe it will be less management of multiple nicks / reduces the urge of someone banned to return via a new alias and new IP address / less pissing off of active members / less pissing off of sponsors by having a post count requirement for new members... New members should not be allowed to post in the Community Lounge until they've established a 100 or 200 post history. wrbtrader
I don't think you get it -- to many people on this site everyone and everything that disagrees with their world view is racist. Did a quick Google search and over the past 2 years all of the following have been deemed racist: Classical music Facial recognition technology The White House Peanut butter and jelly The Washington and Jefferson memorials ‘Happy Xmas, War Is Over’ The expression "sold down the river" The expression "long time no see" The Declaration of Independence Star Wars/Darth Vader Peanut galleries Voter ID Laws "God Bless America" The National Anthem Police officers Ketchup Disney’s Dumbo Republicans Chopsticks The Gadsden Flag ("Don't Tread on Me") Animal House Opposition to illegal immigration Zoning laws All white men Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Standardized testing Gucci Prada Buildings named after white men Conservatives City bicycle rentals Dress codes Self-driving cars Kellogg’s Corn Pops Mathematics The U.S. Constitution Aunt Jemima products Uncle Ben products Fast food Steve Martin’s iconic ‘King Tut’ SNL sketch Pornography Peter Pan Dr. Seuss books Liquor stores in majority minority neighborhoods The American Flag Betsy Ross’s Flag Tipping The expression "no can do" Grandfather clauses So what are obvious "racist posts" to you are just another person's opinion, and we like to err on the side of open discussion with as little moderation as possible in the Politics Forum. As the warning clearly states: If you are easily offended, stay away from this forum!
I think you know what is racist and what is not. It's not your job to litigate the technicalities of it. I don't understand why a trading site would want to allow obviously racist postings. Is Baron making Facebook style money on targeted ads? Does Brass_Trader get ads for Q Anon while I get ads for Interactive Brokers?
Dude, you are tone deaf AF. This site is a Democracy until someone criticizes a sponsor. Same with eyeballs on the P&R forum. Racism is encouraged as it generates page views. You're a fucking massive hypocrite.
