That is not Pelosi's purpose for vising Taiwan. China got all riled up for nothing. Biden stated very clearly to Xi during their conference. The visit changes nothing of the US' official recognition of Taiwan's status which is the status quo. Pelosi's visit is to reiterate US' support for the continuation of its democracy not regarding its sovereignty issue, that's why no tiny Taiwan flag-waving from Pelosi. If China leaves Taiwan alone, US will continue to leave it to be as the status quo but if it wants to try something funny like what Russia is doing with Ukraine then the US WILL get involved and will be involved even more; this is the message that Pelosi's visit is conveying. So if China is not intending to do something with Taiwan like what it hasn't done for the last 73 years, then it has nothing to get uppity about. Nothing is changed.
There's a ton of contradictions there. How is the continuation of democracy not a sovereignty issue? How is the continuation of their democracy not a recognition of their sovereignty? but yeah, I wanted Pelosi to troll China by upping the ante.
US never said Taiwan is its own sovereign country but it does support Taiwan for wanting to keep its political system that is governed by democracy and not by an autocratic regime. Somehow this is just too much for China to comprehend. One is a political system and another is its political status and they are completely separate and has nothing to do with the other but somehow this is the same thing for China or specifically for CCP cuz the Chinese people at this point couldn't care less tbh. All those "fervours" on Chinese social media, that's all trolls really.
