QuoteTracker having mini seizures...

  1. The truth is you don't know what you are on about ... but it's fine with me if you continue to expouse such nonsense. :)

  2. I would tend to agree with the above.

Simultaneous, click on "control" "alt" and "delete" and click on the PERFORMANCE TAB and let us know what kind of CPU Usage and Page File Usage values you have.

Usually true, but if he is tracking an additional 500 symbols in the background (possibly without knowing it), it would be a lot of data. Or, if he happens to be watching QQQQ, SPY, MSFT, IWM, etc (most active stocks), 10 charts could easily be bogging down his system if they are updating/redrawing tick by tick. Heck, a single AAPL tick chart can kill a 3GHz machine if the chart is configured in just the right way.

  5. Possible. The diagnostic test is as you've already said "contol-alt-delete". Did you try this Gord?

  6. Excellent Commentary
    ................................................................................

When working with QT.....one does needs to adjust the watch lists with respect to cpu...and their internet service.....

And you do need a decent computer...3gz...2mb ram....Pentium D Dual core....

And do check the higher volume stocks in your watchlist ie QQQQ...SPY....stocks in play....

    All of it matters.....

True for any of the better softwares.....

  7. Very true.

People would be shocked to understand how much stuff they have running in the "background" and how much demand certain ETF's draw on one's system. The SPY and QQQQ are HUGE resource hogs and could very easily cause any computer system and software application to "go over the edge" if it was operating at the margin in the first place.

Woe! Quite a few responses since I was last able to post. Thanks all for your contributions. :)

OK I give up - my computer is a custom built:

Asus P4C800-E dual processor (not dual core) mother board.

    2 X 2.6 GHz Pentium 4 processors

    2 X 120 GB hard drives

    2 GB RAM

    Matrox Millenium P750 video card

    3 X monitors

Fresh XP Pro installed (not including the recent XP updates that have been problematic)

    Updated drivers

    Updated Java

In all other respects it runs well.

Again - I have previously had fifty charts running along with other programs without a problem. Monitoring the CPU's shows no sign of stress or that they are even breaking a sweat. The RAM only reaches less than half its capacity. The CPU is not hanging, otherwise it would also show in other programs being run simultaneously, and it does not.

I contacted IQFeed and they walked me through a thorough dianostic of the feed and it is fine. They also checked the internet connection from their end and it is excellent. Also the problem exists whether I use IQFeed or IB feed.

I have played with the feed update speed with no change to the problem.

There are no additional symbols updating in the background. In fact the stock data file has been emptied before each test today. Program or computer overload is not the problem.

Jerry from QT came on my computer today and did some tests and took some QT files to play with. Something seems to be corrupting the SDATA file or the input to it or its output and processing of the data by the QT program. Hopefully Jerry can come up with an answer.

I also intend to play with a couple of Windows Services related to data movement through the OS on Monday to see if they are related.

  9. Jerry is one of the reasons why QT is such a GREAT product!
I'm sure he'll get to the bottom of it.

Something I am thinking of trying is taking a disc image and then removing programs from the OS a few at a time and opening QT to see how it responds. Maybe I can find a conflict with QT.
