I just wish to correct the religious muppets about there "something from nothing" ideas. Science does not say that something exists from nothing anywhere. Research it, you will find it to be true, rather than spouting the religious dogma bullsh*t they tell each other about rather than researching the facts. If you are refering to the big-bang, all this theory states at present is that the Universe as we know it today originated from a very small point, certainly not nothing. We can currently model reasonably well to (if i remember correctly) around 10^-20 seconds after the big bang. Before this point current scientific models do not work so well, but as we research more, we understand more and are better able to model it. Recent research in quantum gravity suggests that the universe may well have always existed and goes through an infinite regress of collapse followed by expansion. The idea that something had to have an ultimate beginning is purely a human construct. It is quite possible that the universe has always existed in a closed (or even open) infinite cycle. Unfortunately a certain level of intelligence (which many religious people lack) is required to grasp such concepts. Being human and living as we do, our idea of nothing is somewhat flawed anyway. Certainly, outer space, a vacuum, indeed anywhere in the universe is never 'nothing'. Anywhere in space, quanum particles are constantly buzzing in any out of existence to and from 'nowhere'. To talk about 'nothingness' really makes no sense, as along as we are part of the universe we can never and will never know what such a concept entails. Probably the closest thing to nothingness in this Universe is the skull content of religious people.
And what existed before the "very small point"? Hence, something from nothing. You can spin it all you like, but all theories of creation eventually end up there.
Perhaps because as a child he saw a magician produce a magic wand out of thin air... You know, like pulling a universe out of nothing...
Because it introduces the scientific equivalent of the theists "God did it" miracle. If you reject one to be consistent you must reject both, that however poses a certain problem for you that you rather avoid. Either that nothing exists or that "God existing is just as rational as a universe that just pops into existence out of nothing. The theist has already admitted either way a miracle (beyond human reasoning) is demanded in either case. Hence the inevitable intellectual dishonesty from the atheistic crowd because they cannot admit they are just arguing the opposite side of the same coin philosophically. They need to think they and they alone are superior.
NO. MUPPET! Science just says...we dont know about that point...yet. As I explained, no science anywhere says something from nothing. Science says we dont know...yet. Religion just makes up some silly story about a God, but is left with the same problem...where did he come from. If you are going to slate science at least try and research the facts...if you have enough of a brain to do so.
Great, we agree, science doesn't know. Now all we have to do is get you intellectual elitists to quit acting as if you do.
You see that is exactly where you are wrong. Logically you will ALWAYS be faced with the infinite regression problem because it never goes away. Science will and forever be unable to fully answer the unknowable. oh and PUHLEEZE don't try the ol "the universe always existed stuff either as a supposed trump card on the theist. "The universe always existed" argument scientifically is the same as the theist "God has always existed" assertion. Once again we find the atheist in the same position as the theist.
Actually, the philosophical thought about infinite closed systems and an infinite external initiator are quite different. Go research. I doubt you have the brains. Just to correct you, the "universe always existing" is philosophy or conjecture not science. Try using the right terminology. It will probably be science one day, but science needs concrete evidence first, unlike religion.
