Because I agree that voting against lower the price of insulin is asinine, I wanted to see if that was the whole story. I mean, what politician would knowingly do that - it would be a political death sentence. Of course, it isn't the whole story. I know, its shocking that Spike would post a one sided argument, but there it is. First, the legislation has a loophole that wouldn't include roughly 28M of uninsured Americans. Democrats used to be for the uninsured. Second, it doesn't address the price gouging on the side of the pharmaceutical companies, but instead forces insurers and employers to bear the burden. This is stupid, and Democrats also used to be against big Pharma. Before they were for big pharma, of course. So it is a flawed bill - and many in the GOP were trying to get a bill passed that made sense and didn't go after employers and insurers - but the actual price gougers in the first place. Democrats just want political points for November. Learn, Spike. I know you can do it, buddy.
Fair points but one of the GOP Congresswomen got up and said something along the lines that they were against fixing the price of medicine because then they will come after fixing the price of gasoline.... then food....nothing to do with legislative flaws in the bill. I doubt the GOP resistance was because of intelligent reasoning on the bill. The reasons are simple, Dems came up with the bill so why would GOP vote for it and vice versa. Two, GOP is also in the pocket of big pharma. Three, using words like price fixing is a dog whistle to socialism and makes them fire up their base. Republicans have largely opposed the measure and refer to the bill as "government priced fixing" that could lead to higher premiums for customers and exorbitant costs for insurers.
The idea of price fixing was certainly on some of their minds. But the points I made were the stated reasons for the dissent.
Absolute bad faith argument by the GQP. Sinema killed drug negotiations and the right cheered her for it. The BBB provisions were whittled down to just a few drugs and it was still too much for these scumbags. In summary when presented with a proposal: GQP: "that's going too far" Also GQP: "it's not going far enough"
I would agree but I read GOP Senate introduced a similar bill to fix the price and push it through.... GOP is not voting for a Dem measure and Dem not voting for a GOP measure. It is mid term and neither party wants to give in to the other in taking credit..
