Russia & Ukraine

  1. Right, they got it covered. No need for a draft because it is political suicide to even mention it. We have a volunteer military for a reason and reserves to back it up and allies who will be forced to step in. Will not be a WWIII or need for a draft but U.S. will have to shift assets.

Navy ships and air force assets plus 500 drones could do more damage than 10,000 ground troops of U.S. men and women dying for someone else's soil while politicans can claim they are dying for my freedom. Bullshit.....my freedom is not dependent on defending Ukraine from russia but we should stop invading scumbags withs upport.

You will find that aircraft and gear can be positioned quickly.

I now have friends heading there so I'm waiting for word on if there is anything for me to do. I don't speak the languages or have local knowledge but if they tell me I can be useful, I think the wife has adjusted to the idea a bit.

An odd thing just now, I picked up a copy of The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks and the first line reads "I haven’t killed anybody for years, and don’t intend to ever again. It was just a stage I was going through."

You don't know that.If The US is going to engage with the Russians we have to be willing to accept it.My guess is 99% of Americans aren't willing to have nukes rain down on US cities over The Ukraine.

Putin could be a fucking mad man willing to destroy everything if he doesn't get his way.

No,they didn't have it covered which is why they prevented volunteer troops from leaving when thier time was up.And that was for Iraq. For WWIII they will need a lot more troops and will need a draft.

  6. There will not be WWIII IMHO..... wars are now fought from a distance with smaller land based troops and through economic and political sanctions. Putin will believe he made his point and withdraw and then try to undermine the government. I think he is still smart enough to know no one wins an all out war.

If Putin is getting his ass kicked like that he will use nukes.

Once the first Russian troop dies by the hand of a US soldier its 50-50 imo.

We are probably already doing drops of weapons with unmanned aircraft. I don’t know if we can drop enough food for an entire city that way though. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

This is what is meant by force “tooth to tail.” Putin has or I should say had 170k soldier before he sent them into the Ukrainian meat grinder but of those only about 70k were were actually fighting at any given time. Add to that they are eating MREs from 7 years ago and running out of fuel and sleeping in the mud and that force doesn’t look so tough anymore.

The force coming in from Belarus should be more fighting ready but the stories that must be circulating through the ranks now have to be wearing on the whole force too.
