"We really are finishing the demilitarisation of Ukraine. We will finish it. But the main thing is that Ukraine ceases its military action. They should stop their military action and then no one will shoot," he said.

So basically Ukraine surrenders. That's what happens when one side lays down their arms.
After that Putin will meet his mistress in the Hague for the war crimes trial.
...Neither of the above is gonna happen.

We have celebrated the bravery of the Ukrainians for almost 2 weeks while they suffered great loss. We should not expect them not to agree to terms we find unfavorable from 10,000 miles away. On the other hand I would not be surprised if they tell the Russians to go fuck themselves either.

  7. I would not be surprised nor would I fault the Ukrainians if they entered into some non-intervention agreement in the donbass while minsk type negotiations are in progres, same for Crimea- basically a face saving move and acknowledgement of reality by Ukraine.

But the other side of that, is that I am pretty sure that they will want to triple or septuple down on the fact that Ukraine proper is a sovereign state and that they not only are not agreeing to non-alignment but are going balls to the walls pro-western- culturally and militarily.

Probably a harsh thing to say, but I dont think the west has much interest in supporting them either if they do not remain fully declared to siding with the west. Not interested in getting all cranked up over some appeasement with Russia arrangement which only rewards him. They are free to do whatever they want though.

  8. refer to my post below while you were posting. We pretty much agree, so that makes me question my judgment here.

Both sides, Putin and Ukraine, NATO need to come to an accommodation that both sides can accept and still save face. Otherwise, they would be at war for years. In the end, each side does not get all they want. Give a little, take a little. That is what needs to happen. Escalation like establishing a no fly zone, goading Ukraine to keep fighting, probably, is not the best way to end this war. Women and children will suffer the most. Putin probably, will accept something he can spin as a win. Give him Crimea and the Donbass, Luhansk areas. Ukraine declares neutrality. NATO removes all tactical nuclear weapons from Estonia, Latvia, Poland and moves it further away. That buffer with Russia, Putin can take that as a win and pull his forces out of Ukraine. It will also, save a lot of lives of Ukrainians and Russians military and the civilian population.

I just don't see Putin continuing as a wanted man though. Wanted for war crimes obviously. Even if a deal is reached, Russia will be completely out of the world until he steps down or dies. Or is overthrown from within. It's a tough call, because there is no way in hell the world is gonna let him off the hook for this. So what can he do?
    This is a tough one.
Split the world in two factions maybe. Russia plus China vs all the rest. But China needs us.
    I dunno.
