I may well be wrong about this. I am no politician and almost always wrong when it comes to guessing the outcome of political races, e.g., I thought Trump wouldn't even get the nomination, let alone win the election. I thought Sanders had a chance. (In retrospect, that was supremely dumb of me.) I thought Moore would win. I am 0 for 3. Now i believe the republicans are playing with fire. The idea of booting out of the country a bunch of young adults and youngsters who have never known any other home except the U.S. and are just as American, if not more so, than you or I, is notably unpopular; the only significant exception being among the Breitbart-Infowars-tea-party-alt-right wing of the Republican Party. As I see it, the democrats have already won this issue. The republicans, by allowing a dissident faction to dictate policy, have come to occupy a position supremely unpopular among the general population. The republicans are left with three distasteful choices: 1. they can cave on DACA and in November share, to a minor extent, with democrats the credit for saving the DACA kids; a hugely popular position that tugs at the heart; 2. they can start deporting, and arouse the ire of seventy percent of the nation, with only months to go before a critical mid-term election. The entire Party would then be painted with a broad brush as vile, alt-right, white nationalists, or 3. They can delay, and delay some more, stringing out a decision on DACA while trying to talk the Trump administration into going temporarily soft on deportation. McConnell and Ryan are astute politicians, it is impossible that they are not already cognizant that kicking out DACA kids will be equated in the minds of the voting public with kicking a helpless shelter dog with big eyes and a wagging tail. What will the republican leadership do? What can they do with a rudderless, pugnacious miscreant at the head of their Party; a narcissist who gets off on dominating others and seeing them suffer? It seems a strategy of delay would cost the republicans dearly in November after folks hear the heart wrenching stories of these DACA kids and their families being kept in limbo; their lives turned up-side down by republican callousness. They are caught between a majority of voters in both Parties and their radical Tea-Party-Alt-Right wing. Their best strategy, there are no good choices left, would be to cave as fast as possible on DACA, and grab as much credit as they possible can for being compassionate. If they do it now, they will have plenty of time before Fall to throw fresh red meat to alt-right radicals in their Party. They have already embarked on that process. Long before Fall we should be hearing cries of "lock him up" whenever Mueller's name is mentioned. Is this a fate that befalls a political party devoid of leadership at the top? The republicans chosen leader is bereft of feelings for his fellow man. He plays, as on a stage, the part of someone whose emotions are intact, while in life, and it is plain for all to see, he has no regard for anyone other than himself. He is mentally incapable of good-faith negotiation. This is only possible when two people seeking common ground have mutual respect for each other. Our nation's leader is incapable of such respect. He is a miserable failure to be pitied. Will clever leadership one level down be enough to keep the Ship of State on an even keel despite the hand on the tiller vacillating out of sync with the oncoming waves? I doubt it. I am already detecting an uncomfortable list to leeward. Is what we're witnessing the inevitable fate of a political party that allows a vocal minority to push the entire Party into an untenable, amoral position? Whether the republican stance on DACA is justified by some dispassionate logical argument of law seems hardly germane. What counts here is the heart. And the American voter knows where their heart lies. Should our president and his radical supporters proceed to deporting hundreds of thousands of, for all practical purposes, hard working, productive Americans, there will be yet another stain on our collective moral conscience that will not be forgotten in any of our lifetimes. It will not be the same as the turning away of the S.S. St Louis in 1939, the internment of loyal Japanese Americans in 1942, the Nagasaki bomb, or the pointless destruction of the Laotian Plain of Jars in 1964-73, it will be worse.
Eh, you guys will be there in 2020 no matter what. Trump wants amnesty and TPP, inflation and debt and ultimately we will get a war and recession but the right winger will be there for Trump. All you have to do is look at how Obama was labeled a Muslim and Trump as a wholesome Christian to understand there is no limit to the right wing delusion. Trump will have you loving DACA and TPP by 2020.
Right, because you only read the tabloids. What has Russia today corrupted your mind with this morning?
If Trump signs off on an amnesty, and can't campaign in front of a massive wall stretching as far as the eye can see, he will not be reelected, provided the dems manage to nominate someone who is remotely credible, eg not Bernie, Kerry, Pochahantas Warren.
I’m not understanding, is Trump ok if he grants amnesty (in 10 years) and puts up a wall? Or, if he grants amnesty then there is no redemption?
Russia Today is talking about corruption at the FBI. CNN reporting that it is just something the republicans made up.
No. He puts CNN's dismissal of fbi corruption ahead of Russia Today's exploiting something that is real for their own purposes. Big difference there.
