Since were stripping most (but not all) indicators from our screens. Do we really need the SMA8 +2? We want to keep a very simple, clean system. Not to much, not to little, just what we need to make good decisions... snarlyjack
it's a lot smoother than the 3sma+2 and gives great signals 3sma+2 is primarily just for re-entry in a decent trend
So your entry is on the SMA8 + 2 not on the SMA3 + 2? If so I've had my entry signal's turned around. How'd that happen. So your only using the SMA3 +2 as a "reentry/stop" signal? thanks that helps clarify the system!!! snarlyjack
Maildigger, I'll try to help you out... SMA3 + 2 = 3 Simple moving average with a 2 horizontal shift to the right. Some programs will do this horizontal shift, some won't. I used to trade with Omnitrader program. Omnitrader would not do the horizontal shift of the moving averages so I had to switch programs to E-Signal which does the horizontal shift. The horizontal shift "curves" the moving average differently than just a regular moving average. The horizontal shift is one of the secrets to the SPM system. snarlyjack
Maildigger T28 actually uses a triangular moving average +2 but some platforms don't have that indicator and it was determined hundreds of pages ago that the SMA+2 was close enough. Also note that with some platforms, TradeStation for instance, a +2 is a shift to the left. So a -2 is necessary with those platforms - just be sure to do what ever your platform requires to shift right. jimns
I've been following this thread for awhile because I trade in a similar fashion with a few differences. Anyway, I added the 8 SMA with the offset today as an intermediate trend indicator. Made a big difference for me. Thanks to whomever suggested it.
