IMHO it seems more likely that intelligent people may be perceived as arrogant due to a self-serving bias.
Sounds as if the folk on the lower side of intelligence are like, - ,,We're more humble/let's be more humble, because we are not as smart" Probabably the arogance is rooted in, on both sides, more than we think.
Most successful gamblers are high IQ. I've met lots of HF guys while playing PLO and NLHE in LV. Most had adv-degrees in STEM.
The difficulty in trading imo is the ability of reducing to simplicity. My experience, noob and dumb traders use multiple indicators, hundreds of lines. Pros use very little other than a handful of basics principles. Coding though is a different beast, coding something simple is hard.
Always think back to smart vs wise. I have one relative who dropped out of med school, because he was bored...He just hangs around. I have another who was brilliant...Dropped out of law school...Just hanging. I came back from college single...Had two roommates. Both were drop outs from Cal Berkeley. They ended up going to the local state college and pursued their careers...Did just fine. My son in law got into UCLA (computer science). After a semester, he dropped out. He didn't want to take classes where he is coding 8 hours a day. Years later, he ended up going to a state college and got his BS in computer science. What does he do all day??...Coding!! He also NOW enjoys it. I was ADHD as a kid...I grew out of it. I could memorize every word to an album, but couldn't get much of the concepts of math (algebra, trigonometry, calculus). I had good vocabulary and business skills, but poor math (besides basic) skills. I also was a stoner in high school. I got accepted to UC Davis after JC (where I applied myself)...But knew I was out of my league. So off to the state university I went. I did pretty good in business (farming, rentals, real estate, stocks). It's just that I use a different part of my brain. I would gather very smart people around me. In the book "The Millionaire Next Door", many of the people were not great at school. They found greatly needed vocations and excelled. They would hire the best attorneys, CPAs, and people under them...And go from there. A person I really respect is Paul Orfalea...The founder of Kinko's. He was ADHD, but his parents pushed him (tutoring) to succeed. He said (Lebanese decent) his family would open businesses. It would almost be a disgrace to work for someone!! I grew up this way. Here is his link on Wiki if you're interested... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Orfalea PS Smart, knows that a tomato is a fruit. Wise, knows that it doesn't go in a fruit salad!!
A smart person knows he does not know everything. A dumb person thinks he/she knows everything. I still remember some conversations in past between cleaning ladies, a concierge and handymen about crypto's. They had no clue what they were talking about but tried to show off to the others. Luckily for them they were all dumb enough so that none of them realized they all knew just nothing. These same people also had frequent conversations about their "high" salary. From the management nobody ever spoke about their salary. Really smart people are never arrogant. They know what they know but also what they don't know.
