Swing Trading Options - Market or Limit orders?

  1. Using market orders and trading options intraday? You are going to get slaughtered by the bid ask.

  2. Honest question: why are there so many assholes around here? That was a completely unnecessary reply by FXforex (and childish, too).

  3. Jimmy, in my opinion the imaginary veil of Internet anonymity can do strange things to some people, and cause them to act in a way that they would never dream of in person. Also, some folks seem to have a predilection for mistaking kindness for weakness. Others are just jerks. Pick your poison, but occasionally we see pearls appear such as the one you referenced. If it's any consolation, it seems to have gotten a bit better on the site of late.

  4. I'm quite familiar with the phenomenon -- I started on UseNet forums in the very early 1990's. I can understand cocky, boorish behavior on a sports site, but this is ostensibly a pretty high-intellect group of people. (Not that sports fans are necessarily low-intellect, but trash-talking is part and parcel of that realm. I didn't expect to find that kind of bullshit here.)

And how do limit orders help? If you get "slaughtered" it's because your trades were wrong, can't blame that on market orders. I see nothing good about watching unfilled orders, especially closing orders. :)

  6. If you're getting filled at the bid, instead of near the midpoint, then the effect on a trade can be substantial.

    • That "If" is a big negative, especially for a closing order. :)
    • Are we talking pennies? Unfilled orders at midpoint are useless, and that will happen a lot. Where is the savings?
    • Limit orders are penny wise pound foolish. :)

  8. I would much rather not get my fill on entry than get a crappy fill which might affect my chance to exit profitably. I can't lose money on a trade I don't make.

What is a crappy fill? That term is too ambiguous. You also don't make money on a trade you don't make. :)

  10. If the bid ask is 20 cents wide and you are trading options intraday good luck using market orders.

No offense, if you think market orders are viable then it's pretty clear you have no idea what you are doing.
