A bunch of assholes who constantly whine about how government doesn't work can't accomplish something as simple as choosing a single person to lead them?
Don't get too uppity just yet. Your party went through over 30 candidates before being able to select a nominee for president. And you are about to go through another tortuous process where the party fractures over whether to move Joe and Kamala along or to try to find a winner. And all polls show that even dems don't want Biden to run again. So "choosing a single person to lead them" is not exactly your ilk's strong point either. Whereas, the republicans already have their candidate. MORE TO COME.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/johntharvey/2012/09/10/impossible-to-default/?sh=6e64b8b71180 There is a 0% chance that the US will be forced to default on the debt. We could choose to do so, just as a person trapped in a warehouse full of food could choose to starve, but we could never be forced to. This is not a theory or conjecture, it is cold, hard fact. The reason the US could never be forced to default is that every single bit of the debt is owed in the currency that we and only we can issue: dollars. Unlike Greece, we don’t have to try to earn foreign exchange via exports or beg for better terms. There is simply no level of debt we could not repay with a keystroke.
Congress needs to authorize to pay it. You're right in that we could just print $31T overnight and pay it off. Of course the world would hate us, inflation would skyrocket even further, and we would lose our status as the reserve currency.
House sh**show has a message for America: GOP can't govern and doesn't want to https://www.salon.com/2023/01/04/shshow-has-a-message-for-america-cant-govern-and-doesnt-want-to/ BTW: The Democrats are not my party. I am not a registered Democrat and voted for candidates on both sides of the aisle in the recent election.
It is and it's part of Congress' duty to authorize it. Just like it's left up to them to transition the presidency as was done on January 6th.
