    This policy would empower incumbents
Those who are well known to the public have an advantage
If you are a no-name trying to unseat a long term incumbent it is hard to get your message out with low visibility, and money helps even the playing fields for newcomers. It will cost a newcomer more money to get public visiability

  4. They can still get the money. Just have to do it the old-fashioned way. Door-knocking and all that.

  5. Voting isn't mandatory, but encouraged. Fundraising begins before the election so you can donate to a registered candidate and not show up to vote.

Can you use your own money???
Door knocking only in your district?

  7. No self-financing beyond maybe a certain amount, say $5000 to get started. That's the current limit before you have to disclose. The point is to get all big money out of politics. You can only raise money from your district since your job is to represent your constituents.

  8. Not really.

I would say Scalese but am not close enough to him to know what his "no" looks like.

Paul Ryan did not want it and said no way. Until he didn't.

If it goes on long enough and the dems are not getting their services from congressional members, or debt ceiling being resolved etc, the dems will get a reminder that the constitution says absolutely NOTHING about political parties and all members of congress are required to work to find a speaker. Right now we have a political hack attitude where the dems say "well we got our guy, you guys go find yours." Nope. That attitude is okay for picking a minority leader but speaker is a constitutional position. Dem constituents - if it goes on too long- are fully justified in leaning on their dem reps to make some some speaker work even if they have to grit their teeth while doing it.

As I said yesterday. This is a DC thing. State legislatures cross lines all the time. If a party is out of power they may vote for the least conservative or least lefty candidate of the other party to try to make things more palatable.

He will win today/tomorrow. Despise the insurrectionists, but we need a functioning govt (?)
