TradeStation Q & A

Discussion in 'Strategy Building' started by granville x, May 27, 2002.

  1. Someone asked whether TS users were happy with the product and I can honestly say that I am. However, having said that, I would strongly recommend getting software samples from several vendors including TS. TS6 was different from what I initially expected. In some aspects I found that it FAR exceeded my expectations, and in other areas I was surprised to find that "they didn't offer that service." Two memorable early shocks were the lack of GTC orders (which they say will be forthcoming) and the absence of stock filtering applications (show me all NYSE stocks trading at X $ with a volume of Y, etc.).

    Hope this helps.

Do you mean I cannot get a GTC order at all ? (I need to manually refresh it every day assuming I would like the order to stay there ?)

How about the shaving prices ?
Can I enter a buy limit 45.499 in stead of 45.50

    Thanks

  3. I don't know about shaving prices since I've never tried. If you want a GTC you have to refresh daily or just call the broker desk and they'll keep one for you. Like I said, they indicated that it would be available in the near future....

I don't use 3 decimals in my orders, but this is from TS Help.

ISLD accepts decimal increments precise to three digits (that is, prices as fine as .001) for all Listed Stocks.

BRUT accepts decimal increments precise to four digits (that is, prices as fine as .0001). Fractional price increments are no longer supported.

Great question. And the answer is yes, but I'd like to give you the details. Intelligent supports up to 4 decimal places for equities order entry (up to 3 decimal places for listed stocks and up to 4 decimal places for NASDAQ/NASDSC stocks). This is our proprietary technology that's designed to seek the best available price for you.

Or if you prefer to pick the route route, 3 decimals is available via ISLD (Listed and NASD) and 4 decimals through BRUT (NASD only).
All other explicit routes only allow up to 2 decimal places for equities order entry.

The routes supported for Nasdaq are: Archipelago, Attain*, Bloomberg TradeBook, Brass Utility, Herzog, GlobeNet*, Instinet,Island, MarketXT*, NexTrade*, Redi*, and SelectNet and SuperSoes. The routes supported for NYSE and AMEX are Archipelago, Island, SuperDot 1 and SuperDot 2.
As I've mentioned on other posts, TradeStation Securities is an agency-only brokerage. We have no financial relationship with any ECN or Market Maker.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

    *routes supported through SelectNet

    Granville X,

In response to your question about a TradeStation forum, the following press release was issued this morning:

TradeStation Group Announces the Launch of http://www.TradeStationWorld.com

New Web Site Is Expected to Become The Premier Trading Strategy Development Community for Active and Institutional Traders

Plantation, FL, July 9, 2002—TradeStation Group, Inc. today announced the launch of TradeStationWorld.com, a strategy trading community for active traders that is owned and operated by the company's TradeStation Technologies subsidiary. Since its release in 1991, TradeStation trading technology has been recognized as a unique and valuable "trading assistant" that empowers users to develop, test and automate custom trading strategies.

"We've heard many success stories from TradeStation users who have embraced strategy trading as a better way to trade—an objective approach that limits the unreliable influence emotions can have on trading decisions," said Bill Cruz, Co-Chairman of the Board and Co-CEO. "But we've also heard customers' requests for more resources to help increase their abilities to use strategy trading technology. With the launch of TradeStationWorld.com, we're proud to offer strategy traders a new and valuable resource designed to do just that."

TradeStationWorld.com has User Forums that enable registered TradeStation users to ask questions and share experiences and development tips, and to gain new insights from fellow users. In addition to a Strategy Development Discussion Forum, there is an EasyLanguage Discussion Forum where users are able to exchange ideas and tips on how to harness the full power and flexibility of EasyLanguage® to develop their own trading strategies. There are also Software Support Forums where users can find answers to questions they have about running TradeStation on different computers, ask questions about specific hardware or installation requirements, and explore other technical support issues.

"But it's more than that," added Cruz. "We plan for this to be a trading strategy development site like no other— with valuable feature articles, trader interviews and content you won't find anywhere else."

To make sure visitors can take full advantage of the examples included in all articles and discussions, the company has made it easy to download EasyLanguage code directly into its TradeStation 6 subscription service. One need simply click on the download button, and the Import Wizard then walks the user through how to quickly import the studies in TradeStation 6 automatically. EasyLanguage studies are categorized in an online EasyLanguage Library, complete with a color-coded legend that allows visitors to quickly spot the studies in which they may be interested.

TradeStation users that are interested in additional trading strategy development education will find a schedule of training courses offered by TradeStationWorld from time to time. There's also a Suggested Reading section, where a visitor may become familiar with books from well-known authors. Visitors looking for third-party compatible products for TradeStation 6 will be able to peruse the TradeStation Open Platform developer directory that represents a collection of independent software products and technologies designed for use with the TradeStation platform, and will see a list of EasyLanguage Specialists that can provide custom EasyLanguage programming services.

"As one can see," said Cruz, "TradeStationWorld.com promises to be an exciting and valuable meeting place where TradeStation users can acquire a better understanding of all aspects of strategy testing and development."

  10. We are developing a product that does EOD backtesting on group of stocks - up to a 1000 symbols it has been tested to work well.

Funny enough: one of the reasons that this product has been developed is to overcome single stock backtesting limitation of TradeStation.

The demo and product info are available at
