And this is the Zerodha account (1st account). Rs. 500,000 deployed for trading and for the month of May it generated more than 10% on the capital. And here's the link to the last 1 year's verified P&L: https://console.zerodha.com/verified/80f5c7a3 With this both the accounts delivered over 10% in May. Now looking forward to June. Let's see how it goes.
Let me discuss some losses. It is better to put them on record so that I get reminded later. I traded Motherson futures in February. Since the stock had fallen that day it attracted my attention. Motherson had fallen and I went short. But something happened later. The next day, it gapped up so high and that caused me the single biggest loss in this account for me. Motherson had fallen because Trump announced tariffs on Mexico and Canada. Motherson supplies auto parts to several automobile companies in Mexico and so it had fallen. I entered short since it triggered my sell signal. Then overnight, Trump announced a pause on those tariffs and Motherson gapped up and cause me the biggest loss. What is the lesson here? I normally do not look at the news. I just trade signals. But after this, I became more selective in my scrips and started looking for companies that do not carry geopolitical risks, export risks etc. Does news affect trading? Yes it does. Should I trade news? No. Just keep away from scrips that can get jittery with news or scrips which have some events on the horizon especially if outcome of those events impacts sentiment on those scrips. Feb was a loss making month in this account. And Feb was the only loss making month. So something to learn from February so as to fix it.
Yesterday Yes Bank was in uptrend. By day end it was in profit of Rs.11960. This morning, it gapped down big and when I reversed the loss on that trade was Rs. 35360/. More than 1/3rd of the monthly profit that I was making recently under this approach. This stock was in the news as Japanese lender Sumitomo Mitsui wanted to invest in Yes Bank. Today Yes Bank board meeting is yet to take place for approving this deal. I thought this news was already factored in. This board meet is just a formality for a bank which is desperate for funds. Time leading to a pre-planned event is proving to be a difficult phase for the scrips.
This afternoon, I received a notification from my broker Zerodha https://zerodha.com/marketintel/bul...f-fo-contracts-of-tatasteel-due-to-dividend-2 More specifically, the following para is to be noted: "Assume you bought 1 lot (5500 quantities) of TATASTEEL futures on June 05, 2025, at Rs. 160, and the daily settlement price at the market close is Rs. 165, you would have made a mark-to-market profit of Rs. 5 per share. On June 06, 2025, the previous day’s position will be carried forward at Rs. 161.4 (i.e., 165 – 3.60). If the closing price on June 06, 2025, is Rs. 166.4, you’ll make a mark-to-market profit of Rs. 5 per share." If this were true, most of my profit would get wiped out tomorrow morning. Because, I sold Tata Steel June future at 162.5 and, it closed at 158,70. So, I exited before close at 158.63. Although, I made a profit on this trade, I am carrying prior booked losses on this scrip in my account. So, in totality there is a loss. I may re-enter this scrip (either long or short based on trend) later after the adjustment is factored in. Let's see how this goes. I have a similar issue coming up in BankIndia later during the month.
