He could've opted not to file his union busting expense as a deduction. Like I said, he asked the IRS for one anyway. Can you believe the balls on this guy?
Why not? What's the "union busting expense" that the politician wants him to acknowledge? I'm sure that's not what the law is called. Would you opt out of taking a deduction if it was offered to you? His accountants did their job. If enough Democrats can repeal that law, then he won't deduct that expense in the future. Simple, no?
@ 1:34 and no, I don't think the spirit of the law in the tax code expected illegitimate business expenses to cover seminars of say, pulling benefits from workers
Once employers lose control of their workforce to the union apparatchiks the work dynamics slows to a crawl. Everything to details become points of contention and negotiations. It's absolutely fair for employers to scrutinize all benefits given prior to unionizing and there are vendors who will look at it all and advise employers how they can leverage something for something else, just like the union machine will do. When I joined the last company I worked for before retiring, I had never come close to a union environment. Instead, I'd work for myself, for start-ups and for medium to large fast moving garment companies. All were very dynamic, highly committed, extremely demanding environments. You worked hard, played hard and people were hired and fired based on need and performance. Suddenly I was thrown in the twilight zone, a world entirely new to me. Some unbelievable surprises were, that the workforce didn't work for their employers, they worked for the union. In fact, workers were prohibited from talking with employer reps and could only speak through their union rep. Pay checks were picked up at the union hall, a way to remind workers who they worked for. Workers who didn't want to follow the rigid union rules were cited by the union for their lack of commitment. Workers who broke employer rules were always protected by the union, no matter the reason. We had well known substance abusers who employers preferred to pay not to work rather than risk killing themselves or others....
I'm sorry you had a bad experience w/your employer. If we go by anecdotes though, I'm sure we'll find the bulk of exploitive work environments w/low morale, no chance at promotion, and shitty benefits on the non-union shops.
