Jem seems to be deeply delusional and relies on superstition or his religious beliefs to guide him rather then science or facts. Reminds me why in part Protestant religions were formed, as kind of a backlash against Catholics and their belief that the Pope was the ultimate authority figure on everything. What surprises me is that in this century in a first world country, that these people still exist, and how deep their beliefs are despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
