Updates on my art for those here interested :

April 2011 : Group exhibition downtown Paris as a curator with 5 other artists from France, UK, Australia and USA about Finance and Art, entitled "Greedy Bastarts!".
An AFP newsfeed gave us a good feedback.

May 2011 : released a new art piece called "Maslow Board of Trade - Human Commodities". Available as a limited edition of 30 boxes, it is also freely accessible as a website : http://www.maslowboardoftrade.com

June 2011 : Proud to announce I have a full page in Beaux Arts Magazine, number 1 magazine in France about Art. (issue 324, page 26).

PS : feel free to friend me on Facebook, Cedric Mnich, if you wanna be updated about Finance Art !

  4. Hey! I love your works. How much have you been able to sell them for (net profit?)

These pieces of art don't paint a good portrait of capitalism do they?:D

Ahah, DSK would be an easy target indeed. But I don't want my art to be only related to Finance guys who make big mistakes ;-)

Regarding sales, I don't make enough of them to consider there really is any profit, Short&Naked... I cover my production costs and of development for new pieces and manage to buy a small piece of art from time to time...

@benw, yeah that's right. At first my works were more about "Greed is good !" but financial crisis made me then think "Is Greed that good ?"... I am more into criticism of Capitalism EXCESS rather than of Capitalism itself. I work in an investment bank myself after all :)

I think these paintings are too negative. Maybe that's the point. You're painting the villains to get your anti capitalist view across?

Fair enough, but the problem is you're eliminating huge swathes of your potential buyers. I want to buy something optimistic, something that will my spirits when I wake up in the morning...

If the positive angle doesn't fit, perhaps try and balance things up by communicating the evils of statism. Why not something depicting theft through taxes from the poor and working classes?

Just read this, so perhaps my last post was off the mark.

Can you direct me to any of your works that show capitalism in a positive light? Perhaps a smiling portrait of Henry Ford or Paul Tudor Jones?

    :)

You are absolutely right Ben. Paintings about something negative is harder to sell.
I plan to make new pieces of work more positive about Finance and more inspirational for Finance people. I still have the project to paint some Soros / Buffet portraits for example.
I have to admit I would not hang the big Madoff portrait in my own place :)
the truth is that I probably expelled wrong feelings I had deep inside me about Finance and trading (yeah I lost money into daytrading). It's 2 cents psychology but I am convinced it is related.
I try to keep some humour in my pieces though and I expect people to smile despite the gravity of the subject. People usually think my Series of Seven Sins of Capital is a funny one (I sold 2 complete series to market professionals).
