Hey speaking of... I asked destriero this but he took off before he got back to me... but in that YouTube Kid Rock posted, was that a full blown machine gun, or was it one of those bump stock things?

If its a misdemeanor its not a tough law.In state courts people rarely get max sentencing for any crime their first few offenses.

Why not? If states were serious, why couldn't they push for max penalties under existing law?

Because they rarely do that for most crimes.Thats the state justice system.Prosecutors and judges are given discretion in sentencing.1st,2nd even 3rd time or more offenders rarely get max sentencing. That doesn't mean they aren't enforcing the law, that is the law.

If you are driving to sell a gun and are pulled over and the cop finds it you are likely not going to jail other than booking. If that gun is a fully automatic weapon, you are likely going to jail for years, even if its your first offense.

Ok, so what you're saying is the same thing I am saying. Laws exist, they just don't fully prosecute for them.

That is not what Im saying. They are prosecuted according to state laws, which are much weaker than federal laws.

"Federal gun laws apply to Michigan residents. Federal penalties are generally more significant than Michigan(state) penalties."

They're prosecuted at the bare minimum, if that. Sometimes not even that (in the case of catch and release).

The laws exist to punish criminals in a much more severe way. We just choose not to. Making more laws isn't going to change that (the desire to not prosecute). It will just make more laws.

The fact that in many states illegally having a gun is only a misdemeanor would contradict that imo.

In those states, you have a point. But many states have much tougher laws they do not enforce, even when they can. Some of these states have some of the worst gun violence in the nation.
