No I think US would really step in and defend Taiwan. Unlike Ukraine, US actually has a vested interest in Taiwan so it would not sit idly by and watch it being taken over by China without a fight and just instead impose some sanctions which would not be effective in China's case btw because China is so rich and is a completely self-sufficient economy even if it's cut off from the rest of the world.

And that's not actually the most threatening thing they have said over the past few years. Depending on China has weakened the US. They got stronger at our expense. Standard of living in the US was better before we started trading with China.
China depends heavily on foreign companies to produce semiconductors. They will not be able to make leading edge process technology without ASML's help. They still can be crippled with sanctions as they are a big exporter and there's already social unrest over there.
Your statement is simply not true. China is not launching a war with US, it may have a war with Taiwan. But if US wants to join the war, that is its own decision. But I don't think US will do. If there is a war between China and Taiwan, both sides deem the war as a domestic war. There is no logic for a foreign country to join this war.
