  2. Secret message to my other "sock puppet" - Only you and I can truly appreciate how hilarious Big Dave's last comment is. Especially when I in fact did change the spelling because of the american spell checker on the elite trader post reply page.

Two quotes from one of my favorite Americans:

I don't give a damn for a man that can only spell a word one way.
    Mark Twain

    and

Honesty is the best policy - when there is money in it.
    Mark Twain

Dave: I spelled neighbors wrong. So what. You spelled "idiot" wrong in your chosen handle. The universe is now balanced and Dave .... maybe a bit less so.

just about the subj: comparing other countries I lived in past, it's the best. Nothing is wrong with Canada. It does have its own problems, like any other country, but the problems are less severe that in any other place I can compare from my rich personal experience. Yes, the healthcare is far from being perfect, the roads might be better too, the phrase 'it won't be long' is in frequent use, but, and a huge but - the common sense in Canada still does exist and in use, comparing its absense in many other places in the world, not talking about nature and plenty of resources, mostly land, clean water and oil.

  5. It's a guy snow-snorkeling. Popular up here in the Great White North. We're trying to get it included in the Winter Games.

    Seriously.

Not a big secret that a lot of Canadians do a lot of business with a lot of Americans. the 'neighbour/neighbor' and the 'colour/color' and 'grey/gray'... lines get pretty blurred sometimes so its not exactly like checking a passprt

  7. Quote from nytimes article:
"...the Dominion’s more international, geographically diverse immigrant population probably discourages balkanization and self-segregation."

This is B.S. There's a lot of interracial socializing, romancing, and marrying in Canada but for the greater part immigrants tend to stick to their own. There are major office buildings in Vancouver (aka "Hongcouver") where only Chinese are allowed to work. Toronto is a patchwork of racially-defined regions. Canada's no happy paragon of interracial harmony.

You couldn't be more wrong. I can always count on EliteTrader to get these kind of ridiculous ideas posted. How sheltered a life you must have had.

  9. What? I supervised Toronto housing projects for years. You're the one with the candyass, politically correct, completely uninformed, ivory tower, gated community, bogus and BS ideas.
I actually KNOW whereof I speak. You get your ideas from gov't pamphlets.

Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver are wonderful cities. Canada might not even have higher taxes than the US anymore. The one problem I see is its very liberal political culture, to the point that there really isn't free speech, eg lawsuits against Mark Steyn, threats to Ann Coulter, can't say anything against gays. For me at least, that's scary.
