If they shut off Russia's pipelines it'll create a serious supply side pressure in Oil and Nat Gas. I'm not sure China can buy enough of it to keep Russia's economy healthy, which may ultimately slow down the war efforts. Unfortunately, Putin is a psychopath so that might take a while to develop. Could be like Trump though he got a lot of crazy ideas then backed down once he saw the consequences in action. They are both after all looking after their own interests first you just have to illustrate to them how they are working against those interests.

you still don’t get it, it is not economic, it is sovereignty and history. Also Europeans will continue to do business with Russian, black market will flourish, look at Germany, Russians buy a lot of Germany stuff, will kill German GDP too.

In the case of an invasion, serious sanctions are coming they'll squeeze the Russian economy until Putin yells uncle. We can only hope there isn't a ton a death involved in the mean time. Putin better watch his back a lot of people will want him dead.

There is no "in case" - invasion is already happening. So far - no sanctions and I suspect there won't be any as long as the invasion is confined to the "separatist" areas. Biden is, as the young people say (I think) all fax, no printer.

"White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Biden would sign an executive order that will “prohibit new investment, trade, and financing by U.S. persons to, from, or in the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic regions of Ukraine.”

--- that means absolutely nothing - no one was investing, trading, or financing those areas to begin with.

“To be clear: these measures are separate from and would be in addition to the swift and severe economic measures we have been preparing in coordination with allies and partners should Russia further invade Ukraine,”

... and there's the fold. This invasion is ok... it's further invasion that is a problem.
