Russia cannot. Russia is actually a small country whose economy is similar to South Korea's. They simply cannot fight against the world. All things the U.S. should do is pumping out massive shale oil again to lower oil price and eventually kill Russian economy. That simple.
Not now but, in the future. Once, Ukraine becomes a NATO member, the US can put missiles in Russia's backyard. Remember President John F. Kenney saying he will not tolerate Russian missiles in Cuba? How is this any different? You have to respect Russia as a nuclear superpower. What Putin asked NATO and Joe Biden is not make Ukraine a NATO member. What is that worth? Is that worth going to war and having tens of thousands Ukrainians as well as other foreigners, including Americans killed in the process? That is not even counting the huge economic costs in the tens of billions to everyone including, Europe and the US, millions of refugees flooding into Europe? You have NATO warmongers led by Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron itching for a fight. Do you really believe these guys are going to fight Russia? And bringing thousands of US troops in the vicinity of Ukraine will put them at grave risk if war breaks out. Russia has already moved its warships and fighter jets near Ukraine, if war breaks out---this is going to be a bloodbath.
US is not going to increase oil drilling while, Joe Biden is in charge. Good luck with that. Now, we import oil from Saudi Arabia. Higher oil prices will hurt the US. Oil is already $90 a barrel, if war breaks out, it will head higher. You think inflation is bad now----it will get worst. Much, much worst. And watch for the millions of refugees flooding into Europe if war breaks out, higher natural gas prices for Europe which gets its natural gas from Russia.
Look at the map. Latvia and Estonia, NATO members, are already in Russia's backyard. NATO is a paper tiger. Calling Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron "NATO war mongers itching for a fight" is delusional. Russia's paranoia is not justified by reality and, in fact, is not real but manufactured as pretext for expansionism.
Putin is playing international markets like a fiddle. Maybe Russia has a sovereign fund or maybe Putin and friends like to trade. Any action or words by Russia moves markets and potentially make billions. Wouldn't you like to know ahead of time what Putin is going to say.
I don't think it was ever going to happen and I don't think either Ukraine or Russia thought so either.
Russia is a nuclear superpower whether you accept that or not. I know the soy boys Johnson, Macron, Biden all itching for a fight which is why they moved NATO troops into neighboring NATO countries. They will get that war they want at some point. Good luck with that.
